I've just heard that my GG grandparents were married in Sackets Harbor, where she was born, not in Ontario where they were living in 1861. It's also possible that they were in Jefferson County in 1871 as I can find them on the Ontario census then. His name was John BENNETT and hers was Elizabeth DOLAN. I believe they were married on 5 October 1855. Were marriages being recorded in any official way at that time or just by the churches?
