    3. Dear Listers: We are starting a new project for the Jefferson County GenWebSite. If you are interested in typing, at your own pace with no deadline, we can use your help. After having completed the bios from Child's Gazetteer, I put it away and forgot it. For some reason I got it out a week or so ago, and found we just scratched the surface. Part 2 of Child's contains a business directory of some 300 pages, listing heads of households and businesses, with interesting genealogical tidbits thinly scattered throughout. Adams alone (the one I'm working with) has some 15 or so double columned single spaced pages, meaning LOTS of names. It is, however, one of the longer ones. At the very least, it looks as though we have an 1890 heads of household, census type list, giving the location of nearly every head of household, as well as a few family members in some cases, and occupations. The location of each person can be found with the Child's maps we have already on the site. As you may know, the 1890 census was destroyed by fire, except the small portion containing information about Civil War Vets and their survivors. There is no census for Jefferson County between 1885 and 1895, and this book was published conveniently in 1890. Let me know: 1. If you want to help 2. If you have access to Child's 3. If you need copies to work from 4. If you do want to help, what town(s) you would prefer. We'll give preference on a first come basis. Still available are Alexandria, Antwerp, Champion, Henderson, LeRay, Orleans, Philadelphia, Rutland, Theresa, and Worth. 5. If you mind having your name listed as volunteer on a volunteer page to be developed somewhere on the site. We get these NICE letters of appreciation, and I don't know what to do with them. If we had a volunteer page, we could put them up and you could see what a difference you make! The Town of Watertown is already in, and will be posted shortly, so that you can see what the project entails. Email me for instructions. This is an easy one: straight typing.
