As you suggested, glory books are not the only source of errors. I have a situation where my grandmother (a woman fluent in 12 languages) certified that she was born in Sirokany, Hungary and in another certified that she was born in Allisgriben, Austria. I haven't located either village, therefore I am unable to comprehend her actions. I've also noticed 'death certificates' are another source of errors, probably because of the stress of the moment.
