Hazel, I think your best bet is to consult the Jefferson County Journal -- one of the county's oldest papers. Contact the South Jefferson Historical Association at: 9 East Church St., Adams, NY 13605 They have the actual volumes along with an everyname index. Some of the birth/death announcements printed were pretty obscure, and even though the paper was printed in Adams, it covered the furthest reaches of the county albeit, thinly at times. They charge 50 cents a page and I think a $5 search fee. Send it all together with a SASE and you're sure to get a response. Have you tried finding a Woodward family in the 1830 (federal) and 1835 (state) censuses of Watertown? Seeing which households increased by one male child between those years would give you a good place to start! Good luck! Mark A.
