I'm sure their primary objective, like any commercial >enterprise, is simply in making a profit. I agree with Chris, ancestry's primary purpose is commercial. But really ancestry.com is reasonably priced when compared to hiring a professional genealogist; the main difference is you pay ancestry by the year and a professional genealogist by the hour so you see your money go faster. Most professional genealogists that I know won't start at anything below $25 an hour. Give them just 12 hours and you're at $300 the same price as one year's worth of Ancestry.com's World Deluxe where everything is unlocked! I've found so much over the last two weeks since I started my free subscription that I can't imagine the cost of traveling, motels, pain of getting around unfamiliar cities, and by the time I finally find where I'm supposed to be and open the book the place closes. :-( All that said, I don't pay for subscriptions, I just buy their newest versions of Family Tree Maker ($19.95) that comes with a free three month subscription and then cancel halfway through the second month, before they automatically charge my credit card. >> I know they got their hooks into the >> Mormon library too, soo how much longer will that be free ? I'd love to know what your source is for this? I don't know the religious affiliation of those who run ancestry.com, but even if they are LDS, and they very well could be, they are solely members and not the Church itself. Genealogy is too sacred to the Church, and I would be entirely STUNNED if they took a missionary tool and made it part of ancestry. I've heard no rumblings from inside the Church that it will be made a 'pay per view.' Linda Trent [email protected] LDS member
