Hi folks, The Wards were the last keepers of Rock Island Lighthouse in the River next to the Thousand Islands Bridge. I know because my 3g-grandfather, Michael J. Diepolder, was keeper there too (1886-1901) and in the course of my research I contacted the Seaway Trails Office in Sackets to purchase one of their lighthouse books -- it turned out that the lady who answered the phone used to picnic on the island because she was somehow related to the Wards. (She now has a view of the lighthouse from her living room window -- wish I did!) Anyway, while I don't have any info about the Wards on my website, I have posted an image of the lighthouse and several snippets from Michael Diepolder's original keeper's logs, which are today kept in the National Archives.
