Look for Gordon in the 1870 census. if Carrie moved to her parents after Gordon's death and the son is 8 (in the 1880 census) then he was born 1872.. She is not living with her parents in 1870 so might be married already. I'd be looking to find them 1870 now where did they marry? NY or Canada? try in that area for records..
