A very helpful viewer sent this to me: While using the Jefferson County Surnames List - A-D, I attempted to contact the following people and here are the results: Name = Bell Paula Ligoci 27 Feb 1999 - email address of [email protected] is no longer valid Name = Dorr Sue Hinton - email address of [email protected] is no longer valid If anyone knows the correct addresses, would you please send them to me so that I may contact these persons and ascertain that they really want these surnames posted? I'd like to suggest to all listers that if they don't already have an email account with one of the big guys, such a Yahoo or Hotmail or Gmail, that they sign up for a free email account with one of them. Use that email for lists on the Internet. Of course, it would be a good idea if the lister would check that email account at least once a week. When the lister changes his/her local ISP, the big guy account will always be available. I opened a Yahoo account over ten years ago and have moved to two other states during that time, but my Yahoo email stays with me until Yahoo goes out of business! I've suggested that every now and then on the St. Lawrence county list. You might get a response to a genealogy query years down the road from someone trying to use an email account you no longer have. That's a major reason I use hotmail. I've switched ISP's about 3 times since starting with hotmail but never had to ask anyone to change me in their address books and did not miss any genealogy messages. The major internet based services are also handy when you travel. You can access your account from any pc with internet access (ex. from a public library). It's the same as accessing any website like the nytimes or rootsweb. You can still save emails and attachments to your pc hard drive if you want - but that leads to a whole other discussion of 'it's not if your hard drive will crash but when'. We can save that for another time.
