Nancy, In our extended Perkins clan we have a Byron H. Adams, who enlisted in the Black River 10th NY Heavy Artillery. He married Hattie Perkins in June 1866 and they had a child named Charles H. Adams born August 7, 1866. In spite of the Victorian morals of the times, apparently shotgun weddings were acceptable.
