Curtis last night to attend the celebration given in honor of the 94th birthday of his mother, Mrs. Lois Curtis. A very pleasing musical program had been arranged for the occasion and the feature of the evening was the offering of prayers by the principal of the evening herself, Mrs. Curtis. Many flowers were received by Mrs. Curtis from her friends. Refreshments were served during the evening. Mrs. Thompson of Dexter, a granddaughter of Mrs. Curtis, gave a reading, "Mr. and Mrs. Mann." Two children, Helen and Robert Cornwall rendered a vocal selection. Constance Hay also gave a vocal number. Rev. D. C. Johnson, pastor of the Asbury Methodist Episcopal church, followed with an address, and Mrs. Curtis was then called upon to offer prayer, a request which she complied with. Many of the old hymns were sung during the evening. Mrs. Curtis was formerly Mrs. Lois Cornwall. She was born in the town of Lorraine [Leray], May 20, 1821, and was married to Stephen Curtis, Dec. 29, 1842, in the town of her birth. Shortly after her marriage she took up her residence in Three Mile Bay, where her two sons, Albert and Byron, were born. Her husband died Oct. 28, 1879, and she came to this city immediately afterwards, making her home with her son Byron, ever since. The son, Albert, died some years ago, leaving of the children only the son with whom she lives. Mrs. Curtis has been a member of the Methodist church for over 70 years, having attended the church at Three Mile Bay. For many years she was a regular attendant at the old State street church, now Asbury Methodist Episcopal. Mrs. Curtis is still enjoying the best of health, despite her advanced years and can move about the house with much more ease than the average woman of less years.
