    3. ALICE SPENCER, EX-WATERTOWN WOMAN, DIES Watertown Daily Times (NY) January 5, 1989 Alice Ray Spencer, 72, Ontario, Ore., formerly of Watertown and widow of Paul A. Spencer, died Dec. 19 after suffering a massive heart attack at her home. The funeral was Dec. 23 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Ontario. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Ontario. Arrangements were with the Lienkaemter Funeral Home, Ontario. Contributions may be made to the auxiliary of the Holy Rosary Medical Center, Ontario, Ore. 97914. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Martha Olson, Ontario, Ore., and Mrs. Dianne McKeel, Victoria, Canada; her mother, Mrs. Harriet Ray, Coldbrook; three grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Beverly) Atwell, Coldbrook, Mrs. Sam (Ruby) Powell, Fairfax, Va., and Mrs. Rose Townsend, Adams Center. Born in London, England, on July 14, 1916, a daughter of Henry and Harriet Carter Ray, she moved with her family in 1923 to Watertown, where she attended the local schools and was graduated from Watertown High School. She married Paul A. Spencer on May 3, 1942, in Fort Knox, Ky. Mr. Spencer had been stationed at Pine Camp with the fourth armored division. The couple lived in Watertown for several years after their marriage, moving to Oregon some 30 years ago. Mrs. Spencer had worked as a volunteer in the gift shop of the Holy Rosary Medical Center for 21 years. Mr. Spencer, an Army veteran of World War II, was employed as a pharmacist in Oregon.     3. Hello Alice, WOW!! I can't begin to thank you enough for sending all the information on Townsend & Spencer. I know it sounds daft, but I sat reading it with tears in my eyes. It was so wonderful to see all the names of family & places. Now I have to pluck up courage to contact Tommy Hamilton. It is always a big step, and there is always the fear of the person not wanting to be involved. Again thank you so very much. There are several Ray's in N Watn cem probably descendents of Henry Jr. This is the obit for the wife of Henry W Ray (S/ Henry U) NORMA SHIRLEY RAY, FORMERLY OF CITY, DIES Watertown Daily Times (NY) May 25, 1994 Norma Shirley Ray, 69, formerly of 206 William St., died at 4 a.m. Wednesday at Palm Gardens of Largo Nursing Home, Largo, Fla. There will be no funeral. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the National Cremation Society, Largo. Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County or the American Cancer Society. She is survived by a son, James M., Joliet, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Janice) Hellriegel, Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren; a sister, Marion E. Grant, Watertown; and a nephew. A brother, Lester C., died in 1982, and a sister, Ruth G. Oshier, died in 1993. Mrs. Ray was born on Aug. 20, 1924, in Nicholville, a daughter of the Rev. Ulysses B. and Helen Conrad Grant. She graduated from Oswego High School. She married Henry W. Ray on May 2, 1948, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mr. Ray died in 1968. Mrs. Ray was an operator for New York Telephone Co. for 37 years and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
