Dear Nan, I have a single copy of Civil War papers I ordered from U.S. Archives on Ransom Cole, he lived in Cape Vincent. I can email you a copy of the "hand written" copies I have, but that is but one of many records. Let me know if you are interested in those pieces of military records. Thank you for all the work you do. Sincerely, Donna Cole
Donna, I don't think we're talking about the same thing. Check out our Civil War page for the town clerk's information. I would really like to know for sure, since Cape Vincent doesn't exist at the state archives. It seems not all the town clerks sent them in, or maybe just didn't do them. Some look like they got sent in after lots of nudging or nagging; very little information and only what the clerk could "remember", and one Civil war expert here in Jefferson County, Harold Sanderson, said in some cases they made them up out of whole cloth. I suspect Antwerp is one of those. Another, Ellisburg, exists, but is out of reach...a nasty story. Right now, I have plenty to keep me occupied, but maybe sometime in the future, when things slow down, we'll try to collect other types of records. Thank you for the offer.
