Hi Steve, I have done some work on the Hentze family as my husband's grandfather was Fred Hentze here in Chaumont, NY about 5 miles west of Brownville. I don't think that I have anything to help you, in fact you seem to have more than I have. My work starts with Henry Hentze, who was born in 1759. Some years ago I was corresponding with Beatrice Teeter, a Hentze descendent. I think that she was from Illinois. I'm not sure that I could even find her address any more. Let me work on this some more and see what else I can dig up. Someplace I have a copy of a page from the Hentze family bible with the vitals. I think that I have recorded all of the dates and they referred only to those descendants of Henry. I will see if I can find that page. Please stay in touch. I haven't worked on my genealogy in a while, but I will see what I can find. Hello - I got into my family history 2 years ago and have found a lot of information, but would like to try and fill in some gaps. I have traced my ancestry back to Asahel Hensey (my mom was a Hensey), who in the 1850 US Census was living in Adams with his wife Prudence. I believe he is the son of Andrew and Rachel Hensey, who was also living in Adams in the same census, but a different household. Andrew and Rachel were living in Adams in the 1840 and 1830 US Census' with a male child that was the same age as Asahel. Andrew married Rachel Adams in Connecticut in 1814, then moved to Brownville, NY between then and 1820, where they appear in that years US Census. Andrew was born in CT to John Andrew and Sarah Hensey/Hansey. From Sarah's Revolutionary War Pension Application, I have found that: - John Andrew was a Hessian (German mercenary fighting for the British) soldier that was captured in the Battle of Bennington - He was a POW working on the farm in CT where Sarah lived - He joined the American side in Jan 1781 and fought in a few battles, including the Cornwallis' surrender at Yorktown - He returned to the farm, married Sarah, had 3 kids (Andrew was one) then re-joined the US Army and died fighting Indians at St.Clair's Defeat in Western Ohio in 1791 I was trying to figure out why Andrew and Sarah moved to Brownville and found that Henry Hentze was listed as an early settler there in 1814 on your GenWeb page. His wife Triphena received a deed to 25 acres there, so they moved from Vermont, according to the Morris Clan website. They also say that Henry was a Hessian soldier. I suspect that John Andrew was related to Henry (brothers?) and that they came over as soldiers to America together. I have not been able to locate them in German Rev War era muster rolls yet. I think his German name was Johann Andreas Hentze, but was spelled phonetically as Hensey. I suspect that after John Andrew died, Henry sent word to Sarah or Andrew about the town of Brownville, so Andrew and Rachel moved their prior to 1820. Henry and Triphena are both buried in Pettit cemetery in Brownville, Andrew is buried in Honeyville cemetery near Adams. Finally, here is the info I am looking for: 1) Are there any birth/school/etc records in Adams that verify Asahel is the son of Andrew and Rachel? 2) Are there any Jefferson County land/deed/etc records for the Hentze/Hensey families? 3) Any info that may tie John Andrew (or Andrew) and Henry together? I travel to Toronto for work about once every other month and would like to make a side trip to Jefferson County some time (an additional 4 hours of driving), but have not been able to work it out yet, so any information you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help! She was married to Adam Group (sometimes spelled Grub) in 1849, Syracuse, NY. According to her obituary in The Post-Standard, Syracuse, NY on Monday morning, February 2, 1914, Rosena was born 28 Feb 1833, Redwood, Jefferson County, NY. I can find 15 Harger in the 1850 Federal Census for Jefferson County, all but two living in the town of Pamelia. The closest logical choice for a father is Abram Harger, born 1785, Connecticut (according to the 1850 Federal Census of Pamelia, Jefferson County, NY. His wife name was Betsey, born 1790, New York State, according to the same census. Abram Harger is listed in several books of the area as being the postmaster in 1837 and supervisor (town of Pamelia) in 1850. It is additionally stated that Abram Harger built the first stone hotel in Pamelia Four Corners some time shortly after 1821. It is a long shot, but I have tentatively decided that this Abrams & Betsey Harger! are the parents to Rosena. I am curious if anyone has information on the children of Abrams & Betsey Harger, the church they may have attended (for record purposes) or where they may be buried. The marriage certificate for Adam Group and Rosena Harger lists Mary Harger as one of the witness. Perhaps Mary is her sister? I would appreciate any information on this family. Thank you. Hi Dave, The Morris Tract Cemetery is actually in the Town of Brownville. I believe that it is on route 125 out of Chaumont. I checked on the Jefferson County roots web site (www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nyjeffer/ barbrc.htm) and I found the following: Casselmam, Adeline (Lavanchard) Wf. I recently read the obituary of a woman -- Adeline LeVanchard Casselman -- who died in 1933 in the Jefferson County Home, after living there 28 years. She was to be buried in the "Morris Tract cemetery, near Chaumont." I had not heard of this cemetery, and checking Barlett's (1994) Town of Lyme Cemetery Inscriptions, I don't find it listed either. Her husband, Daniel (not Donald as he is named in the obit), and his first wife Lenora, are buried in Freeman Cemetery in the Town of Brownville. It looks to be about 4 or 5 miles from Chaumont. Does anyone know where Morris Tract cemetery is, or if it is known by some other name? And/or does anyone know where Adeline LeVanchard Casselman is actually buried? So far the earliest census I have located her in is 1860, Town of Champion, where she appears with her parents, Frederic and Matilda, and others with the same surname (transcribed and indexed as LVancher on Ancestry.com).
