Karen gave me links to both cemeteries in Sterlingville and it does not appear she is buried there. Hell of a thing - so far I can't find her in any Jeffco or St. Laurence County cemetery. It's an interesting dilemma. She was at least 30 years younger than my GGrandfather, had a rather exotic name to say the least (Lulu Lamont???), and is not buried with him in the family plot in Antwerp, where his first wife is buried with him. This makes her a mystery and that's fun, even though she is not a direct ancestor of mine. I have more or less the same problem with a couple others who are direct ancestors, but for some reason she intrigues me, maybe because nobody in our family, including her children, ever said much about her. =Bob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have that obit and a couple days ago my cousin received his death certificate, so she now needs just one, our Grandfather, to join DAR. If you know the town/city where the death occurred do a Google search for the clerk in that town; ie. "Ellisburg Town Clerk" If the person died in a village within a town, even one with a different name, the town clerk has the records, not the village clerk. The town/city clerks submit their records to the state. You can also order birth/death records from the NY State Dept. of Health. That takes quite a bit longer, though. The HD site is here: http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/ good luck, Pat Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It seems that you may have been right about Edwin's parents. His age matches what we have found in later census records. The obituary for Almy Harrington Cook Rose also gave us some leads to follow - Two single women (Bessie & Lucy) by the name of Cook were listed as staying with another Harrington in the same edition of the newspaper. It all seems more than a coincidence that they would be in town from Syracuse and Ellisburg (where Almy's sons George & Edwin are from) unless they were related and Almy was their grandmother! The arson story may have some validity as well since we've been able to find Abigail Scott Cook and all her children except Lucy Cook Cobb in the 1910 census, living in Detroit. Perhaps Edwin ended up doing time in New York! Thanks again for your assistance. Do you know how to locate death certificates in New York? We're out in Ohio so we need to do this long distance. Any ideas would be helpful. Kathie & Don Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The 1870 census in Richland, Oswego Co. shows Alvin Cook, 50, Alma, 47, George, 15 & Edwin, 9. The Oswego Co. newspapers at http://news.nnyln.net/ have several mentions of Alvin Cook & his wife, among them are mentions of them going to visit son Edwin in Ellisburg & an obit for Almy Harrington Cook Rose who is survived by, among others, son Edwin Cook of Pierrepont Manor (which is in Jeff. I just searched a few names and found quite a few obits and other pieces of information that will be helpful to you. Many of the obits list the parents and birth place and birth dates so you can go back many generations. Just for Edith Hulbert Eseberg Higgins I found her parents obits,Homer and Ella Hulbert,(maiden name for Ella and her parents names) and her grandfather, Eben Hulbert (it lists his parents, too). On Edith's obit it states that she was a member of the DAR so you will be able to trace back at least to the Revolutionary War. I didn't search Ella's parents names but there should be info on them. Here is the site www.fultonhistory.com I search in quotes "Carl Eseberg" obit for wife, Edith Eseberg Higgins "Bernard Reape" obit for James Reape ?? father "Evelyn Keddy" obit for Homer Hulbert, father of Edith "Leo Prievo" ??obit for his mother "Homer Hulbert" obit for wife, Ella obit for Oscar his brother "Eben Hulbert" many articles of interest Most articles are in the Boonville, Watertown, Lowville, Adams papers. You may have to sort out the articles as other papers are there, too. I will post some other sites that you may be able to find info on later. The Frank Plumtree obit belongs to the Frank Plumtree in Spragueville. He is my great great grandfather, no doubt about it. I was raised in Antwerp and still have family in Watertown. I have mined the nnyln and fultonhistory newspaper sites for all of these folks. The actual age is around 100 give or take. Depends on what record you want to believe at any given time. My problems arise from the my families handed down knowledge. According to ledgend, this Frank Plumtree had 1 and only 1 spouse, Julia DeCanter Plumtree also resting in Spragueville. They had 7 children and all are known. He is also known to have lived and worked in Lewis County, Town of Montague, Tug Hill area for a while. Now this Frederick J Plumtree shows up in the 1900 Town of Montague census as a son of a Frank and wife named Sarah married about 4 years after Julia died. Coinciedence or not?? These are the questions I'm after. Are the two Franks the one and the same? Is Frederick related as half siblings to the other 7 or not? Has the ledgend been wrong all these years? Were did Frederick J go next? Thanks again for your reply. Respefully, Bob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
