Gerald, The Theresa Historical Committee published a bookback in 1980 which covers the complete history of the Village of Theresa. I don't know if this is still available or not, but, it wouldn't surprise me if you could obtain a copy by mailing a letter to : The Theresa Historical Society Theresa, N.Y. 13691 Att. Hi SessaI, there was a family named Flick living in the village of Theresa, Jefferson Cty., N.Y. back in the fifties. As I recall they had four children Shirley was the oldest, and Mickey and Dickey who were twins and a younger brother whose name I can't recall. I can't remember there parents names either , but do remember that there grandparents had a farm in the Clayton area. ( Mickey and I used to stay there on occasion during summer vacation ) I hope this will help "Spunky" Don
Hello, I just joined the Jefferson Co. List and want to ask if anyone knows anything about at George W. MERRILL who m. a Mary KLOCK about 1840. They may have been in the Jefferson Co. area when they married. Mary KLOCK's mother, Mary Catherine RASBACH m. 2nd, David PRUESS/PRICE in 1816, and they moved north from Herkimer Co. to the St. Lawrence or Jefferson Co. area. Then I loose track of them and haven't been able to find them by 1840. Mary had a brother, Maynard or Mynard KLOCK, and a sister, Catherine KLOCK, who m. a FERGUSON. Any information on any of these people or of others of the same surnames would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for any help. Marg McEuen in NM
Thank you everyone for your responses. I'm pretty sure that Theresa is the right location because the Pattens did live there. But they also lived at Alexandria, Pamelia, Orleans, and Sackets Harbor after moving from Herkimer County. Spunky don't worry about wearing out your welcome. I'd love to hear anything you have to tell about the area. Gerald, The Indian River falls are located in the village of Theresa, N.Y.. I was raised there and spent many hours swimming in the "Mill Pond". The Village was once known as "high Falls" and there was a Chair factoryand a silk mill that ran buy the water power from these falls, There was also a grist mill located just up river and ran from power taken from a smaller falls located there. There is now a dam and elec. plant owned by the village of Theresa which supplies the village with electic power. I could go on and on , but , don't want to wear out my welcome. I know the Village of theresa is on your map. "Spunky" Don

Certainly another good possibility, considering the date of 1791, but if the place was Jefferson County (and I'll bet nobody can be sure of that, either!) I'll stick with Theresa. This is from personal knowledge (and I'm of the age to have senior moments) but it should be what the locals called "Theresy High Falls", or today known as Theresa. Will try to check that one out. That was quick! Thanks again. Nan Dixon -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/
Actually, I've friends that run milk trucks in all of Jefferson County. I can find out the place names. In Lewis and Jefferson, and Oswego counties. For instance. Place named Pinkney Corners isn't on any map..it's in Lewis county in the town of Barnes Corners. Wardwell Settlement is in Ellisburg NY between Peirpont Mannor-Belleville-And adams. Ikie's Crossing is also in Ellisburg..inbetween two towns. Moonie Gulf is between Mannsville and Adams in the hills. Here's a link on the Jefferson County pages with a partial list..but some of the names are just known by locals. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/ Leona MacDonald leona@solaseireann.com Solas Eireann http://www.solaseireann.com owned by: Traditional Irish Culture Limited c/o 168 Walkinstown Road Dublin 12 ----- Original Message ----- From: Nancy Dixon <nandixon@gisco.net> To: <NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 04, 1999 6:25 AM Subject: [NYJEFFER-L] Names of hamlets > Terri Bright has asked for the location of Lyon Corner possibly in the > Town of Adams. The hamlet is Indian River. It's about 10 miles North of Watertown (if i remember right). There's even an exit for it on Route 81. I believe there's a Falls there it's a local swimming hole. Used to be a mill there. Kinda a dangerous place...and pretty famous with the locals. It might be a lot like my own area. We have little places named Sandy Point, Rural Hill, Wordwell Settlement. Most aren't on any map. So I think you'd need to assume that Indian River Falls is part of Indian River township. I used to go to the school for sport events. I'll ask some of my school chums more about it there's a few that live up that way. Terri Bright has asked for the location of Lyon Corner possibly in the Town of Adams. Does anyone know of such a place? And while we're on the topic, please send in names of hamlets or neighborhoods that are not on our list. Names like Dingman Point (where I grew up) or Elm Flats (where my husband went to school) are found on few maps, and are quite unknown to people not living in that particular township, even in the same county. If your ancestor lived at DeLaFarge Corners, we know she was somewhere close to LaFargeville, but certainly not in the metropolis! We pass through Scoville Corners, Seven Bridges, and Gunns Corners on every trip Watertown before we reach Depauville, and turn off for Clayton Center. For instance, Three Mile Creek Cemetery is NOT Three Mile Bay cemetery for which I was corrected recently. Let's see what we can do! Send your locality names (please give at least the township if you can, and be more exact if possible) either to the mailing list, or directly to me at nandixon@gisco.net and as soon as we collect enough, we'll have another chart on the site. Nan: As I just wrote to Pat Hill on the UPTON list I don't know what happened but when I got three of my lists the other day, they all came in with just the header ... at first I thought it was the individual list until I saw the three and then I thought it was rootsweb ... however, I also know that when in doubt reboot and that's what I did and I then began to pick up the list as usual ... not the lost issues of course, and I still don't know what I did or what ... please excuse ... as all is well now.
