Since I have long been searching for information of ca 1820 wedding of Bazille Guyot and Mary (Mariette)Frances LeRoux (LaRue) in Jefferson county, is there another book which might contain Jeff. Hi listmembers. Does anyone live in Jefferson Co and could check out a local library for a copy of this book and do a lookup for me: Grooms and Brides of Jefferson County, New York -- by Ellen & John Bartlett [pub 1993, approx 50 pages] The book is said to contain about 2700 marriages in the period 1830 to1938, taken from newspaper clippings. Grooms and brides are arranged alphabetically. I am looking for records of two marriages: (1) Henry Harrison HINES/HINDS and Betsey (Betsy or Eliz(s)abeth) FALL/FALLS. Henry was born Jan 1817 (Watertown); Betsey's birthdate &US birthplace are unknown. Their marriage was likely in the period 1833 (earliest - HHH being 16) up to 1842 (latest -- based on birthdate of their child, Henry F. HINES b. 19 Feb 1843). I believe all official civic and/ or church records of their marriage were probably destroyed in the great Watertown fire of May 12, 1849 (ref: http://www3.imcnet.net/trinity/history.html Henry Harrison HINES/HINDS is my gr-gr-grandfather. (2) Henry F. HINES b. 19 Feb 1843, (Jefferson Co?) NY and Phoebe EVANS b. 3 Sep 1848, Schroeppel, Oswego, NY. They were likely married about 1864/65 based on birth of their first child, Franklin HINES b. abt. 1865 at Gilberts Mill, Oswego Co., NY. Many thanks, in advance. // Regards, Gord HINES (in Regina SK Canada -- far, far away from Jefferson Co, NY)
Good afternoon list members: I am seeking to locate my great grand parents. Charles Edward Johnston, born US, 1830s, died unknown Married Elizabeth (Eliza) McInrue (McInroe or McEnrue) born 1841, Montague township, Lanark County, Upper Canada. Have been unable to locate where Charles and Elizabeth married, and where they lived and died and were buried. The only clue I have is that a son George Edward Johnston, 22, born US, date is unknown, son of Charles Edward Johnston and Eliza McInrue, marries Margaret Lane, 19, daughter of John Lane and Margaret Wilton, May 25, 1891, Perth, Ontario, Lanark County, Canada. On the marriage records it lists George as living in Montague township but being from Halifax, NY US There does not appear to be a Halifax community, county or township in New York state. The headstone for George Johnston has his birth year as 1874. This would mean that he was 17 in 1891 and not 22. As all those who are researching our family genealogy have hit a brick wall in locating Charles and Elizabeth it has come down to looking at various New York counties and townships in a close proximity to the birth place of Elizabeth McInrue. Montague Township in Lanark county is adjacent to Smiths Falls, Ontario approximately 30 miles north of Brockville, Ontario. To muddy the waters more for reasons unknown George adopts his mothers maiden name in 1891 and becomes George Edward McInrue. Charles and Elizabeth Johnston are my great grand parents and George and Margaret McInrue are my grand parents. So the questions are: Where did Charles and Elizabeth marry? Did they have any other children ? Where did they live, die and where buried? If any of this brief history has any connection to anyone in Jefferson County I would be very much appreciate hearing from you. Jerry McInrue

Hello everyone, This is a message to anyone who might subscribe to the Jefferson County Genealogical Society newsletter called the Informer? If you keep the back issues, I am trying to obtain a copy of a certain article: "Samuel Cronkhite House, Brief History" in Jefferson County Genealogy Informer, Vol. 5, no. 2, March 1998. This article might provide some important clues as to the parents of Samuel. Thanks for your help. Allan Plucinik Colorado Springs, CO

Hi Lois thanks for the information, will now start pestering Ms Gayle. I sorta wore out my welcome down in Oswego! I ran across a Dorothy Maltby Verrill manuscript of Maltby Genealogy-American Linage...seems our line ran back into royality and had my granddad marrying into it, but old Gpa must not have amounted to much - no title was bestowed on him. but it sure gave me a good clue as to where to go looking for him next! thanks again have a good day Grove -----Original Message----- From: Lois <doghouse@imcnet.net> To: NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com <NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, November 19, 1999 9:04 AM Subject: Re: [NYJEFFER-L] a little info please Grove, There are a large number of Maltbys buried in the South Rutland (Tylerville) Cemetery in the Town of Rutland. The Jefferson COunty historical society can be reached at: hasjeff@imcnet.net It is a non-profit organization and is based on a few good volunteers :) ... if there is a specific family that you are looking for, they have many family files that they've put together. Drop them a note and see if they have your family file. It may take a while for them to respond, but they will. -Deb -----Original Message----- From: Grove Schoolcraft <groves@dmi.net> To: NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com <NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, November 18, 1999 10:39 PM Subject: [NYJEFFER-L] a little info please >can anyone advise me if there is a Historical Society in Jefferson County or the town of Rutland in particular.? > >I had been tearing the county of Oswego apart for 3 years only to just learning they were at Rutland before moving to Oswego! > >Am looking for a Gideon Hall marrying a Lois Maltby. > >Understand the Maltby name was quite well known there! > >thanks >Grove > > >============================== >FREE UNLIMITED Web space at RootsWeb! >Any subject: genealogy, computers, pets!
