    3. Greetings Alice: I would appreciate it if you could provide me with some information. What is this address? Genealogy Dept, 229 Washington St Watertown NY 13601 Is it a commercial genealogy service, a government dept, a college organization or a Genealogy organization? I am looking for information on KENNEDY,s in Watertown, Cape Vincent, and Hounsfield in the late 1800's. Some of them were associated with Davis Sewing Machine company. Would this organization have this type of information? 3. Carla, I suggest that you email Historical Assn. of South Jefferson at Adams, NY. I volunteer there entering cemetery records into the computer. Debbie Quick is in charge and has great knowledge of the area. The 1811 may present a problem, however, it's worth a try. The children may have lived long enough, if they stayed in the area, to be in the early Jefferson County Journal deceased pages. They have the original newspapers which they makes copies from. In the very early days one had to pay for an obit to be published, therefore, in the earliest newspapers there were only death notices. If she doesn't find anything for you, please let me know. At the Flower Memorial Library in the genealogy dept. @ Watertown, they have NY state census records starting with 1790 thru 1860. Of course you are aware that only head of household names appear prior to 1850. Watertown has index cards for the 1825 & 1835 census for each Town in Jefferson County. Also in NY state there were no required recording of vital statistics prior to 1880. Your ancestors sure were there rather early. My Claflin ancestor came with father-in-law Ebenezer Brown to Adams in 1800 and settled south of the village near a large creek, as they all did in those days. As a child, I lived in the South Jeff area. -Florence @ Henderson, NY - 25mi south of Watertown- -----Original Message----- From: carla burnside <rcburn@syix.com> To: NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com <NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, January 08, 2000 12:47 PM Subject: [NYJEFFER-L] informer query >I'm looking for a Moses Wright and wife Martha, that was in the Adams, Jefferson, New York area in 1811. >There children were Christening in 1811 at the First Presbyterian Church in Adams. >Mary born about 1811 in New York, other children-Alvy, Calvin, Hester, Harriet, Joseph, Moses Cook. >Moses was listing as a early settler of Adams. >Mary later in life marry a James Slutter from PA. >Thank you >Carla Burnside >4871 Arboga Rd >Olivehurst, CA. 95961 >rcburn@syix.com > > > >============================== >Search ALL of RootsWeb's mailing lists in real time. >RootsWeb's Personalized Mailing Lists: >http://pml.rootsweb.com/ > >

    3. Correction for you all: It is BROWNVILLE, NY - leave out the -s- It is a small town out of Watertown West on Route 12E. Years ago there used to be paper mills there. Also, another one I have seen incorrect - it is HOUNSFIELD - it may have been spelled differently in the 1800s. Hounsfield is a small hamlet going west out of Watertown on Route 3 on the way to Sackets Harbor where a large battle was fought during the War of 1812. If any of you ever get up this way, Sackets Harbor is a place worth spending time and money to see. It has been restored since I graduated from high school there in 1942. Also Madison Barracks has been restored. There is still more to be done there. A fantastic restaurant there "Madison Barracks Inn", including outdoor eating and boat dockage. Perhaps this will help you find what you are looking for easier. 3. Tony I have a copy of page 345 in front of me. I am fortunate to live near the NARA Page 345 Watertown was taken on the 4th day of October 1850 I could not find my ancestors at first. Even though I sat here with a copy of the original census. Then it dawned on me perhaps the transcriber read the name differently. I was looking for McCarty, but my McCarty's were transcribed as McCarthy. When I entered McCarthy.... they appeared. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sylvester <osprey@pinn.net> To: <NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 07, 2000 6:56 PM Subject: Re: [NYJEFFER-L] 1850 Census Online > I'm wondering whether there is a record of the date(s) the 1850 > Jefferson County census was taken. > > In the meantime, many thanks to those who took the time > to transcribe it. > > Tony Sylvester > > > > ============================== > Search ALL of RootsWeb's mailing lists in real time. > RootsWeb's Personalized Mailing Lists: > http://pml.rootsweb.com/ > >

    3. Your suggestion sounds sensible. Many New Yorkers were converted to the Mormons after they had already moved West. -----Original Message----- From: Shirley Farone [mailto:twigs@bright.net] Sent: Friday, January 07, 2000 3:52 PM To: NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYJEFFER-L] Eli Chase Ray, Thanks for the theory on the probable movements of this little band of families. The article mentions that they picked up an Uncle's family at Lebonon, Ohio. Yes, I was wondering if the 1832 date for joining the Mormon church was in line. Lisa set me straight about the 1820 (note 1820 not 1830) departure from Ellisburgh, N. Y. as one not spurred on by a desire to join the Mormons -- because that was way too early for them to have left for that reason. The trek across the plains states was so full of hardship - read the story many times, but I always enjoy reading about it again. Thanks. Last May my husband and I came across from Salt Lake City and stopped at Council Bluffs -- where we found the most friendly people at a home-owned grocery store -- a nice memory. I figured that Council Bluffs and Council Point were probably one and the same.
