    3. Thanks, Charles, for your reply. Apparently, the gentleman with the Rowe ancestors who lived on Pillar Point, was not interested, but in the meantime you all gave me insight enough to question part of the text and make notes to that effect. The Rowe-Chase families did not leave Ellisburgh in 1820 for the West as followers of the Mormon religion -- they converted along the way. Thanks to all of you who helped me on this. 3. Shirley, Sorru but I am a terrible speller. The church(?) you are refering too in Kirtland is probably the Kirtland temple, originally constructed by the Mormons, but no longer owned by them ( maybe partially own by them and the Reorganized LDS church, I'm not sure) but no longer used as a temple by the Mormon Church. As for the other question; the Mormons who came West in 1847 were members of the original church who recognized Brigham Young as the next president of the church following the death of Joseph Smith. There were other members who felt that the next president should be the son of Joseph Smith and they are called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are headquartered in Independence Missouri. Lisa Ecker sy mistake even for some of us who live in Ohio. One might be > interested in touring their church (is it called a church?) in this town. > It was quite fascinating. 3. Shirley, I should have opened up all my email last week but now that I have I see that you had a lot more questions. I agree that these people could have joined the church in Kirkland , Ohio. When you mentioned a place called Council Point I too wondered if that wasn't Council Bluffs. When you said that your ancestor was killed there that aroused my curiosity. There were many who died there during that hard winter of 1846-47. There is a place across the Missouri River in Nebraska called Winters Quarters then but now known as Florence. Some 400 persons are buried there in a common grave and I believe there is a record of all who are buried there. I have visited it a couple of times as I have some ancestors also buried near there in unmarked graves. It is too bad that you couldn't go to this cemetery on your last trip. The LDS church has a visitors center there and I'm sure they could have been of help to you. It would be interesting to see why your ancestor is listed as killed. Since it sounds like you had at least one ancestor come West to Utah with the Mormon pioneers you shouln't have much trouble researching out this line as there are probably many other descendents who have done this.Have you tried the LDS site at familysearch.org? Ancestry.com also have a great deal of information on LDS lines and you could give me your names to type in if you wish. I am a subscriber. Please let me know what I can do to help. Perhaps if you go on usgenweb for Florence Nebraska or Council Bluffs, Iowa they might have a listing of those buried at Council Bluffs (Iowa) or Florence Nebraska in the Pioneer Cemetary. If not, I could probably find that information for you. 1. [NYJEFFER-L] Truman or Freeman Wilson in Jefferson Co., NY 1850
    2. Hello, Recently I received information about the 1850 Census for Orleans, Jefferson Co., NY regarding a Truman (or Freeman) Wilson who is a farmer age 44 years. He is married to Mirinda age 43 years. Their children are Jane age 16 Silas age 14 Clark age 11 Henry age 9 Lodema age 6 Sarah age 4 P.H. (male) age 2 The ages of Jane and Henry match those of my gr gr grandfather Henry C. Wilson and his sister Jane Wilson Carter. Henry was born in Jefferson Co., NY in Sept. of 1840 according to the Wisconsin Civil War Pension Papers. Also in Rodman, Jefferson County is a Caroline Wilson who is working in a hotel and she is 23 years old. This matches the age of Henry's sister Caroline Wilson Shaw. I have looked at various census indexes for the years 1820, 1830, 1840 for a Freeman or Truman Wilson and this is what I find: 1840 Truman Wilson in Rutland There are Freeman Wilsons in other counties in New York in 1820 and in 1840. Does anyone know of or have a connection to this Truman Wilson family? or know if the name should be Freeman rather than Truman? My gr gr grandfather, Henry, had a son named Freeman who died when he was about 8 years old. My gr grandfather, Abram Wilson had a daughter named Lodema. Sometimes names are repeated like this but not necessarily. If anyone can help with information about this family, I would be very grateful and willing to share information about my Wilson line. Can you please tell us if that information is available to the public and how we might get it? Also, how are they indexed? Alphabetically, by street or how? This is something I've been trying to look at for many years. Information for Jefferson County for this period is rather scarce for those of us who are far removed. Thanks a bunch Bonnie in Idaho
