Thanks to everybody! The response was overwhelming, and my little chart of towns shows a volunteer in each box! For you gracious volunteers who didn't get a town, there is another project, much the same thing, only this time a city directory of Watertown for 1855. If you would like a few pages of that to copy, let me know, and I'll get copies to send. This is a treasure you won't find in every library, copied by an alert observer (and volunteer) in the city clerk's office. The city clerk of Watertown is also the city historian. I really didn't expect this response. Thanks again to one and all! Nan Dixon -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/

Part 2 of Child's contains a business directory of some 300 pages, listing heads of households and businesses, with interesting genealogical tidbits thinly scattered throughout. Adams alone (the one I'm working with) has some 15 or so double columned single spaced pages, meaning LOTS of names. It is, however, one of the longer ones. At the very least, it looks as though we have an 1890 heads of household, census type list, giving the location of nearly every head of household, as well as a few family members in some cases, and occupations. The location of each person can be found with the Child's maps we have already on the site. As you may know, the 1890 census was destroyed by fire, except the small portion containing information about Civil War Vets and their survivors. Hi Nancy, I am willing to do some typing also. I would take the Henderson area If you didn't get a volunteer for it yet. What kind of typing is this? Is it information that you need typed on the computer or do you just need it typed onto paper from out of a book? You can use my name for a volunteer. I live in Pennsylvania, so you would need to send me copies of the information that you need typed. I am not a fast typist, but I try to be accurate. I'm formerly from Adams Center. Scott, I have been typing from Child's Gazeteer the Town of Ellisburg section for a project. Saw your yesterday's posting. Gave it to Eric Anderson, Pres., Henderson Historical Society, at our meeting yesterday. On page 99: "Grant, Darius, (Belleville) r 18, retired farmer. Grant, Willis, (Belleville) r 18, farmer 11." I don't know the year of the book publication. If Nan Dixon sees this msg, I believe she can tell you. Belleville is 5 mi. from Henderson.
