I have posted a photo and some historical information about the Sulpher Springs United Methodist Church, Sulpher Springs Road, on my Hounsfield Resource Site. You may view it at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/hounsfield-alhn.html Enjoy! Mark A. Wentling Washington, D.C.
Yesterday I started a new project on my Hounsfield Resource Site called "Hounsfield Homesteads." It's a place for posting photos of some of the early homes built in our beloved town, and a chance to share a little about the homes' histories, families, and why they are special to us. I have posted two such homesteads from my own family -- the Washburn Farm & Jenkins House, both in Camps Mills, Old Salt Point Road -- I invite you to view them at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/hounsfield-alhn.html -- Click on "Hounsfield Homesteads." If you like what you see, then I also invite you to share your own photos and stories. Through this website I hope to preserve the memory of these homes for generations to come! Sincerely, Mark A. Wentling Washington, D.C.
Hi folks, Thanks to all those who visited (or tried to visit!) my Hounsfield Resource Site over the past couple of days. Everything has been closed here in Washington, D.C. so I am just getting to my mailbox now. The proper address for the site is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/hounsfield-alhn.html It is part of the American Local History Network for New York State. I hope you can all access it now -- no doubt the weather caused some interference the past couple of days. Thanks! Mark
I have the Barnes Corners Cemetery List . He is not listed, but there are other Woolworth Family members. Would you like them. Pat
Thomas Flanagan married Martha Anna Nichols about 1881. Does any one have any information on marriages in that time frame, and where to find them. They may have been married in Carthage but at this time I have no information. Thanks, Ross Flanagan
Try the Carthage Library - I think they have some indexes for their newspaper. Yes Shirley, I meant they read the stones of the people who died before and in the 1880's - some of the ladies read later dates than others. BUT!!! without them I don't think we would have any cem records. Hats off to the DAR for taking time to do it. You are always lucky when I'm there (A joke son) Alice -----Original Message----- From: Shirley Farone <twigs@bright.net> To: NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com <NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, January 26, 2000 10:56 PM Subject: Re: [NYJEFFER-L] Re: Muscalunge cemetery >Alice, > >I very much appreciate your information, Alice -- I was awfully confused >and since you work there, >the info you gave me means much. Alice, I very much appreciate your information, Alice -- I was awfully confused and since you work there, the info you gave me means much. Flower has so many very competent volunteers -- we're so lucky when we get there to do research, aren't we? It was news to me that the DAR read only stones that the died date was in the 1880's -- but I'm confused -- did you possibly mean to say "died before and during the 1880's?" There really weren't very many burials after the 1880's if I remember correctly -- I know of only 3 burials since I was a kid -- Alan Phillips who used to be the caretaker for years and years, Marjorie Roacher, who was the Secretary-Treasurer for years and who's died date hasn't been engraved on the stone -- and the most recent, a man by the name of Richardson, I think that was his name -- and we must remember, an attractive stone was put up in honor of the doner of the land, Amasa Fox -- perhaps a replacement stone. Thanks for all your help. Shirley
Anytime, Alice -- glad to know the name is Hooker, too; the copy had been fiddled with -- an unmolested typo where the "r" should have been. You're so right -- The Muscalunge Cemetery is not at Sulphur Springs -- 26 years of living near Muscalunge cemetery may have been too much for me -- guess my directions left a lot to be desired. We always came in from Brownville and still do. Sorry folks. Shirley
Shirley, The Flower Memorial Library Genealogy Dept does not have any cem records for Muscalunge cem done in 1959 to my knowledge (and I work there) as I wrote before, We have the one done by the DAR in the 1920's and they only read the stones that the died date was in the 1880's. the other Muscalunge Cem records are in the Hounsfied book that Gus Rogers and the Bartletts did about 3 years ago. So therefore you are reading form the same records (DAR) that we have. While we do not have cemetery listings available, we have some very cooperative, knowledgeable look up people. Either Ellen Bartlett or her father Gus Rogers can help you with most Jefferson County townships, including Hounsfield. Check our lookup page. Nan Dixon -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/

Barb, The list I have here, which is alphabetized and appears complete - done by the DAR - has neither family (Curtis or Kelly). Of course, as has been pointed out, it may not be the "accurate" one that was allegedly done by the gals who transcribed the one held by the Flower Memorial Library's Genealogy Dept. Take this for what it may be worth. Shirley At 09:28 PM 01/26/2000 EST, you wrote: >Would there possibly any Curtis or Kelly family buried at Muscalunge >Cemetery? Dorchester, Alexander, d. Jan. 23, 1823, age 65 yrs. Dorchester, Anna, his wife, d. Sept. 17, 1840, age 79 yrs. A lot of the stones are completely illegible -- crumbled or knocked down. Listers, this is in response to the Muscalonge Cemetery inquiry. The Flower memorial Library, Genealogy Dept., 229 Washington street, Watertown, NY 13601 has a great many cemetery notebooks. The Muscalonge cemetery record is there, I have used it. Two ladies started the genalogy dept. there about 1958. They transcribed many, many items - cemetery records for one. I consider those records extremely accurate, because when they were doing transciptions from cemetery records and/or tombestones information was easier to read then. It is very difficult to read old tombstones today because of decay, broken, etc. There are a couple of St. Lawrence County cemetery records there, Hermon for one which I discovered last week. Carolyn, I do know that there are several DORCHESTERS buried in the cemetary. From Watertown travel towards Sackets take a right to Dexter just before getting to the hill and bridge there is a road to the right. About a mile and a half down that road the cemetary is on the left. There is no sign on the cemetary and the gate is stuck open. I know there is a Hooker Dorchester and his first wife and a lady named Della Dorchester in that cemetary along with several others -----Original Message----- From: Carolyn and James Bulgey <cjbulgey@northnet.org> To: NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com <NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, January 26, 2000 3:06 PM Subject: [NYJEFFER-L] Re: Muscalunge cemetery >Can somone give me directions to this cemetery in Hounsfield?
