    1. [NYJEFFER-L] Elijah Cronk VT --> Jefferson Co. NY
    2. Allan Plucinik
    3. I am a descendant of some Cronks in the Jefferson and Oswego counties of New York. Elijah Cronk was born about 1800 in Vermont and at some point moved to Jefferson Co, NY. He had a son Samuel A. Cronk born 1845 in Canton, NY. Samuel was married to Flora Havens. Samuel had a son Charles Sumner Cronk born 3 Oct 1873 in Richland, Jefferson, NY. Elijah Cronk is as far back as I've been able to go. Would anyone have any additional information about these people, especially Elijah? I would especially like information about who Elijah's parents might be and ultimately whether I can trace my roots back, through him, to the ever infamous "father of all American Cronks": Herck Hendrick SIBOUTSZEN (SYBOUTSZEN). So, far I have not been able to link Elijah with anyone in the MacKenzie papers. Thanks. Allan Plucinik Colorado Springs, CO

    1. [NYJEFFER-L] Obituary of William FULLER Jefferson County Journal 1885
    2. odie
    3. Jefferson County Journal May 5, 1885 William FULLER---Wm. FULLER, Esq., one of the highly respected and esteemed citizens of the town of Adams, passed away April 20th at the ripe age of 72 years, 5 months and 25 days. The departure of one who for over a half a century has gone in and out among us calls for special notice. He was born in Whitingham, Vt. His mother died when he was nine years old. When he was seventeen his father, Samuel FULLER, came to this town and located on the farm where his decendants now reside. Here the father died Oct. 4th, 1857, at the age of 82, leaving two sons and five daughters of whom one son, Royal FULLER, Esq., and two daughters, Mrs. Huldah MUNGER of Adams, and Mrs. Miranda WHITNEY of Pulaski, yet remain. William was married Sept. 10, 1837, to Miss Martha KEEP, so well known, loved and mourned by all in this community. With her he lived in happiest conjugal relations until Jan. 18th 1883, the sad bereavement came when she was called through the shining gates of heaven. A clearer faith, a more triumphant departure, is rarely seen. But the blow was heavy for her companion and from it he never recovered. His naturally robust health was already seriously impaired and gradually he failed. The past year was one of intense and increasing suffering, causing him often to long for release. But his strength was equal to his day. In patient endurance all was borne and from first to last not a groan escaped him. His bereavement led him to God for help, his sufferings blessed him to the throne of grace, in the name of Jesus and his prayers were consciously answered. Henceforth he leaned confidingly on God, and lived in prayerful, joyful communion with Him. " I am so happy in the Lord," said he on one occasion. At another time when in an agony of suffering, in response to words of sympathy, he replied "oh, how much more our Saviour suffered for us." His death was calm and peaceful. His familiar form and face and smile we see not. But from the memory and affection of those who knew him he is not gone. To those who cared for him with such untiring assiduity and affection, to those who wept with bursting hearts over his pale face, to friend, neighbor, citizen, all his memory is precious, and he lives above, aye, united they live above. To both the coffin came but the "gates ajar" were close by, and the cross was the entrance. There drawn by cords pf blessed memories of the departed and truth and love may we all meet " In the land 'o the blessed."

    1. [NYJEFFER-L] From the listmaster: Obituaries and other clippings
    2. Nancy Dixon
    3. >I have a scrapbook of my grandmother's and would like to share the obits, marriage notices, and other information in the clippings. Do I just send them to you? No, this is what the GenConnect system is designed to handle. > Would this go to < NYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com>? No, that's the mailing list for topics pertaining to Jefferson County. I'm pretty lenient with choice of topic, though some of our listers complain that it's beginning to sound like a chat room, which it shouldn't be. But this material needs to go where it can be properly indexed. > Is there a special obituary address? Can a copy like I sent to you just be forwarded? Yes, at http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NY/JeffersonObits You don't have to save the address, though. You can find it on the Website under GenConnect Boards on the front page; and in the site index under Bulletin Boards, under GenConnect, and under obituaries. Rootsweb tries to make it as simple as possible. Near the bottom of the list of obits, you find "POST A MESSAGE". You fill in the blanks with your name and address (the blanks expand as you write, so you need not abbreviate), then post your message in the spot provided. After you have written it (copying your message and pasting it into the spot is quite all right) scroll down to the two buttons, PREVIEW and POST. Preview is just that, and I always use it to catch typos or other stupidities to which I am prone. When you are satisfied that all is in order, press post. In a very few moments (they are pretty fast, considering all the switches to be contacted) your obit is posted and you get a final look at it. The "cookie" means that if you x that, you don't have to fill in your name and address next time. It will remember and put it in for you. All in all, fairly painless! Now for the surprise (at least it was to me!) Up at the top of the bulletin board, right under Jefferson County, are four choices. If you press Surname Index (it's number 3) you will find an index of names including not only the obits, but also queries, wills, deeds, the whole bit. If you press the search option, the next button, you can do a regular search, and the name you enter will come up. I'm no expert at this, and I'm still learning. I'll welcome any and all hints. Please send them to me personally, since I don't always read every word of the mailing list. My responsibility is to see that it cncerns Jefferson County. Oh, by the way, there's also an explanation on the GenConnect page, accessible from our front page and from the index. We do urge people to send in information squirreled away in old scrapbooks, in that proverbial box under the bed, in the back of the closet... Every little bit helps! Because Jefferson County is so sadly lacking in official vital statistics, we have to find our clues in other places. This whole GenConnect board was a complete mystery to me a couple of months ago, and I dragged my feet in both accepting the boards for the page and in learning to use them, but once I found the Surname Index, I became a believer! -- http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/

The subject of this notice was born in Hartford, Connectiticut, In December, 1804 and was removed to the town of Watertown, New York in March 1805, grew up, and was identified with the county, and as much interested in its advancement and prosperity as any man in this section. Being retiring in nature and a rather delicate consitution, he has not taken an active part in the affairs of the county but no one in it was better informed on all subjects pertaining to its welfare. In the death of Mr. Churchill his family have lost a benefactor, his relatives a kind and social friend, and the comunity a neighbor that was eminently just in every transaction of life. Thus passeth away a good man in the fulness of years, regretted by his friends, never to be forgotten. 1. [NYJEFFER-L] Thanks for Muscalunge info!

    3. Hi List! I really appreciate all the help on finding Muscalunge cemetery. Hooker Dorchester was my GGGgrandfather and Alexander was his father. Anna Cowles was Alexander's wife. When the weather is better I'll be heading for Jefferson County for a visit. If anyone is researching these families I have information going back to early 1600's. Carolyn

    3. Pinkney corners cem records are housed at Flower Memorial Library in watertown and there's another set of records at the Library in Lowville. To get to the cem. You go to adams center. head up towards barnes corners at the light on route 11..go up the hill from the light..away from 81 into the hills. Head towards lowville. When you get to the corner at barnes corners near the hotel make a left..go accross the bridge and there's a road to your right. You'll see a cemetary on the right..keep going. It's a LONG LONG way out. Like probably 5 to 8 miles. You can see a farm at a corner on the left side of the road...think there's a radio tower or something there just before the corner... and if you are looking...you can see the Pinkney Corners Cem to the left of the barn. It's a dirt road. No signs to tell you it's there. Leona
