    1. Re: RiGGS
    2. Hello all listers:...Is anyone on the list researching the RIGGS surname?...I am descended from James RIGGS and Pamelia CARRINGTON RIGGS...Both are buried in the Dexter Cemetery, Jefferson Co., NY...Their son La Fayette RIGGS is my gg grandfather and I am trying to find his path from his parents home, (Jefferson Co. census, 1850) to Lowndes Co., MS in the 1860 census...The ten years between the 1850 and 1860 census is a mystery and he died in MS in 1864... Any help would be greatly appreciated... Best regards, Geneice Morris Sarah Geneice Morris (sgmgwg @aol.com)

    3. Everts History of Jefferson County states: "In 1799 a great number came into this section to look for lands... Among these was John W. Collins, who took up about six hundred acres of land, including the since-known "Dr. Green place," the "Melvin Moffatt farm," and the "Kilborn farm." Upon the Dr. Green place he afterwards put up the first framed house,--a large two-story building which stood for many years." Does anyone know the location of the Dr. Green Place, or the Melvin Moffat farm and the Kilborn farm? Does anyone know anything of the first framed house? 3. Hi folks, I've updated my GOODRICH family webpage with material pertaining to Bailey Goodrich (b.1778) of the town of Orleans, and his descendants, including the Nelson Goodrich family. Bailey came to Orleans from Berkshire Co., Mass. (via Lewis Co., NY). These were pre-1850 settlers of the town. 3. Why not go to the source? John and Ellen Bartlett, who compiled the book, have been extremely generous with their time in providing lookups for nearly all their work. Go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/lookups.htm for their address, and take a look at all the information they are willing to put at your disposal. Remember they are volunteers, and your thanks is all the pay they get. You will find them very knowledgeable in Jefferson County genealogy, especially the northern part of the county. 3. Hello Michael, I saw an email where people were requesting that you "look up" marriages in Jefferson Co. Please forgive me if I am going about this the wrong way, but I am very new to the "search" arena. I was wondering if it is possible for you to look up another marriage? Unfortunately, my info is VERY sketchy... Frederick? FANNER or FENNER and May/Mary/M? CLARK/CLARKE? married in Jefferson County, NY - probably in Watertown Sometime between 1915-1924? Michelle ics@netdex.com > > Hi, Folks: > > > > This is just a message to all listers whom requested look-ups in the Grooms and Brides of Jefferson County book. I made my monthly visit to the NYPL over the holidays, but was dismayed to find that they are in the process of moving all their books and materials down to the first floor. The move will be done by the end of the week, and I hope to get back to the library very soon. I'm sorry this is taking so long, but I wanted to let everybody know that I haven't disappeared. In fact, I'm still taking requests! > > > > Best, > > Michael Jackman

I'm especially interested to see if there are any sales to WASHBURNs. 2 -- Secondly, Asa was in the War of 1812, serving in Bellinger's Regiment and Capt. Camp's Company (Elisha Camp?). I'm wondering if he served at Sackets Harbor, so would like to know if there are any service papers on file for him there in Jefferson County. 2. Mark Wentling
    3. Good morning folks, I thought I would alert everyone that I have updated my EVERETT genealogy webpage with information about the three related Everett families that were pioneer settlers of Watertown and Orleans. These include Jonas & Brainard Everett; Deborah Everett (w/hus. Charles Gillett); and Eliphalet Everett and his children Laura (wf. of Henry Hatch), Austin the under-sheriff of Watertown, and Elias Everett. All of the people except the first are of the Sharon, Litchfield Co., Connecticut, Everett family. An engraving of Austin Everett is included. Thanks to Carolyn Bulgey of Saranac Lake who supplied the information on Brainard's line. Eliphalet's sister Lucy married William Avery and their descendants eventually made their way into Jefferson County by about 1915 (that's my line). You can see this information by going to http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/welcome.html -- Click on EVERETT Hope this helps! Sincerely, Mark A. Wentling

    3. Hi folks, The Wards were the last keepers of Rock Island Lighthouse in the River next to the Thousand Islands Bridge. I know because my 3g-grandfather, Michael J. Diepolder, was keeper there too (1886-1901) and in the course of my research I contacted the Seaway Trails Office in Sackets to purchase one of their lighthouse books -- it turned out that the lady who answered the phone used to picnic on the island because she was somehow related to the Wards. (She now has a view of the lighthouse from her living room window -- wish I did!) Anyway, while I don't have any info about the Wards on my website, I have posted an image of the lighthouse and several snippets from Michael Diepolder's original keeper's logs, which are today kept in the National Archives. You can see this information at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~legends/welcome.html -- Click on DIEPOLDER So if the person out there is still wondering which Wards were lighthouse keepers I would suggest calling the Seway Trails Office. Hope this is a help! Sincerely, Mark A. Wentling Washington, D.C.
