    1. RE: Helping one another in Research
    2. Perhaps, some of you recall my email requesting information as to the churches in Brownville, NY due to the marriage of my Grandparents in the 1880's. So many times I answer email and help people when I know the answer even if it is not my Surnames I'm Researching. But it seems that everytime, that I have requested something on the NYJEFFER List someone writes back and reminds me that if I want an answer order an LDS Film or go to the LDS and look it up. What ever happened to helping others? I help on many occasions. Perhaps I should stop helping others seeking information. . The person gave me the Churches in Brownville, however they stated that LDS has the films and how to look them up.Also stated they would do the work for me this time. I have a small Genealogy Business and I teach at for our local Gen. Society and also taught at the LDS Family History Fair this Year. I also know that the Local LDS keeps certain local Films on Hand because, down Here I look things up for People everyday. Therefore I felt someone in this Area could do it easily for me. If they did not want to,then they should not of done it. I do not make a fortune at my small Business and I have an Ill husband. Is it wrong to write to a local List for an Answer to a Question? Do I have the wrong Idea that this List is to Help one another? To think that I was born in Watertown NY makes me wonder what has ever happened to the nice people I knew from there. I would also like to state that sometimes the LDS Library Information does not have each and every Church Listed.

    2. In the winter of 1813, Samuel BAILEY, Olive (__)BAILEY, and at least three of their children (Joshua, Alison, Lewis) all died within one month. Is there a record of a "plague" that hit Jefferson County, NY at that time? Did it hit a particular village or area of the county? One daughter, Nancy BAILEY survived and married John KINGSBURY ca. 1827 and they lived in Antwerp. Thank you for any information. Bernice

    1. Adams family of Jefferson County
    2. I am researching the Adams family of Jefferson County, NY and have come across some more information. I would like to post to this list to see if anyone can help elaborate on some of it. Robert Adams was born 8/2/1777 in Wethersfiled, Connecticut. He emigrated to the Town of Rutland about 1800 and had a farm on Rutland Hollow Road. In 1803, there were nine farms that occupied on or near the Rutland Hollow Road. The occupants were William Newton, John Coates, John Eddy, Morgan Starks, Robert Adams, Stanley Weeks and three men by the name of Maltby. Robert Adams was married to Nancy Andrus, who was born 2/2/1780, in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and whom died 12/26/1866. They were married April 11,1802, in the town of Rultand by David Coffin, Justice of the Peace. They moved to the town of Hounsfiled and Robert Adams was employed as an artificer (repaired and built small arms) at Sackett's Harbor, NY They later moved to the Town of Alexandria. Robert Adams built a log cabin on the old Military Highway. The Adams Farm is two miles north of Redwood on Rt. 37. Robert Adams, with most of his family is buried in the Adams cemetery on the Adams farm. It is on a ridge that overlooks the waters of Flatrock Creek and the railroad track and about 100 yards from where is original log cabin was built. Children of Nancy and Robert: Robert Adams, 5/10/1803-8/28/1889 Genea Adams 2/28/1807-6/26/1815 John Adams 3/14/1810-7/16/1885 he married Sarahann Thrasher. Sarahann was one of seven children born to Joseph and Susan Ford Thrasher. Elijah Adams 3/12/1812-1898 married Dolly Cronkite Samuel Adams 4/10/1817-? married, name unknown John Adams, son of Robert Adams and Nancy Andrus, was born April 14, 1810 in the town of Hounsfield. William George, gave this account of John Adams. He was a pettifogger. Besides being a pettifogger, he was also a fur buyer and a farmer. John married Sarahann Thrasher about 1835 and they lived on the Adams farm. Their children include: Nancy Adams 1838-11/14/1905 married Jason George Susan Adams 1841 married Alexander McDonald An article appears in what I assume to be the Watertown Daily Times, dated 8/19/1931 with a picture of a farm lost to fire. John Adams 1844 went West after serving in the Civil War. Nancy Adams was married to Jason George about 1860 and lived most likely in Philadelphia, NY. Later they resided in Redwood, where Jason worked in a glass factory. In about 1880 they moved to Ithaca, NY where the George's operated their own glass factory. Nancy raised her niece, Isabelle McDonald and also lived with her daughter and son in law, Sarah and George Hartman. Nancy is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Ithaca, NY. Now from what I understand, there are articles written in The Watertown Daily times, an article about Robert Adams, Pioneer. The Gazetteer of Jeff, County 1684-1890 and an article in Centennial History of Jefferson County, NY by John A. Haddock. I would like to obtain copies of these articles as well for my own files.
