    1. Jefferson Co. Lookup Request
    2. Ron & Sharon Buckley
    3. I have a really big favor to ask of some Jefferson Co. resident researcher. A few days ago I received 3 pages of part of my family history from a researcher who says she does not remember where she got the information, apparently early in her research on her CHURCHILL family in Jefferson Co. I would really like to know the name of the source and the author. >From what I see on these 3 pages, I have determined that this source was published between 1995 and 1999. Besides the CHURCHILL surname, it also appears to have a section on the surname HARDY, possibly even BEECHER. Since the majority of the CHURCHILL family remained in and around Jefferson Co, I believe that a copy of this work has probably been provided to a genealogical library in that county. I know this is not much to go on, but I would really like to either have a copy of the manuscript (if available), or to be able to contact the author, as he (she) is most assuredly related to me. If someone who has access to a genealogy repository in Jefferson Co. would be willing to locate this resource for me, I would be delighted to reimburse any and all expenses incurred in this endeavor. Thank you so much for reading this, and I hope someone can help or at least point me in the right direction. I live in Texas, and we have a great genealogy library in Houston, but finding New York records is not always easy. As further identification of the resource, I am including the descendancy of the patriarch of the manuscript, William CHURCHILL. Just in case a family member in Jefferson Co reads this, I am including all the generations that appear to have stayed in that area of upstate New York. 3. Can anyone please tell me if the guest books or other official records from Orleans House hotel in LaFaregville are still existing for the period 1865-1881? Perhaps they are still at the hotel (even though it is now a private residence) or maybe they are with the Town Historian? Also, can anyone tell me how to get a photo of the hotel during that period? I am hoping to get a portrait of its keeper, Samuel Kilborn, my 4grt-grandfather. I'd like samples of his writing too, thus the request for the log books. 3. Please go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/boards.htm and follow the directions for posting obits given there. Shirley Farone, at twigs@mail.bright.net has graciously offered to help with questions. She's our expert, she's posted hundreds of obits! We really appreciate any and all obits posted here. Because NYS was so late in requiring vital statistics, often an obit is our only clue. Nan Dixon, listmaster. 2. Dave Simonds
    3. Tony -- I don't have specific information concerning the DEWEY after whom Dewey Ave. in Watertown, NY is named. But the David DEWEY who married Polly COLE could not have been a Revolutionary War veteran, since he was born 31 Dec 1786, according to the 1898 Dewey genealogy. His father Eleazer DEWEY and grandfather Aaron DEWEY do appear to have been Rev War vets -- although I have not got around to obtaining their military service records and checking at D.A.R yet. Thanks for the biographical info on Hon. Hiram DEWEY.
