    1. E-Bay & genealogy
    2. Shirley Farone
    3. Hello Listers: Just had a few minutes to do some surfing/relaxing and found that E-Bay offers a Genealogy section. You might want to check out the listings....you could find something you've wanted to add to your collection of CD, books, etc. As usual, you've got to be on your toes -- some of these people are in business, perhaps unscrupously so -- and some are individuals who are unloading their no-longer needed items at real bargains. Good rainy afternoon reading. Have fun. http://listings.ebay.com/aw/listings/list/all/category2980/index.html My daughter just located "Misbegotten Son" about Jefferson County's own serial killer -- on E-Bay's True Crimes Book Section -- have a family member who was Artie Shawcross's neighbor back in the 1960's. She had never read Jack Olsen's great book on the subject. E-Bay is a hoot....if you haven't checked it out, do so. 1. Sternberg
    2. George, I just returned from vacation. I noticed a Sternberg grave in the Point Peninsula cemetery near my Wilcox family graves. The Lyme Heritage Center in Chaumont has all the area cemetery burials if you want to contact them for more information. Point Peninsula was originally Wilcoxville and juts out into Lake Ontario and is almost directly across from Sackets Harbor if you take the direct route - by water. Sharon

    1. Hemingway-Hemenway
    2. Shirley Farone
    3. Hello listers: Some time back I received a request for information about the Hemingway family of Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties. I didn't have much to offer at the time, and failed to save the querist's name and address. I just posted a Biography item on the Jefferson County Rootsweb GenConnect Board which may be of interest to whomever it was who wrote me. It may not help much, but every wee bit helps. Hopefully, that person is a member of this list and will take the time to look at the article I just posted. 2. Emery & Ruth Leathers
    3. Second installment - In looking through my unproved data file, I find that Eunice Gardner was supposedly born 22 Dec 1794 in Stonington township, New Haven county, Connecticut. Her father may have been Nathaniel & her mother Lydia (maiden name not known). Hope it helps. If you can verify the above, please let me know.

    3. Hi, all. I, too, am interested in Gardner in Jefferson or St. Lawrence counties, or even possibly Otsego. My 2nd great grandfather, Sylvanus Hatch, reported married a Eunice Gardner. Sylvanus was it Otsego, around Butternuts, before Jefferson Co. I have been suspicious of Lion Gardner of Connecticut as the founder of the line in 'the colonies', but have no proof. 3. Hi Jefferson listers, I've tried putting out a specific query for my 3d grgrfather Monroe Madison GARDNER (1822 in Sackets Harbor-1899), but had no response. Could some kind soul tell me any or all of the early (pre-1820) GARDNER settlers in Jefferson County ? Perhaps I can work from back to front . Monroe's uncle who raised him was Jonathan GARDNER b ca 1778 in CT or MA. Also, any pre-1820 SEAMAN family settlers. Thanks, Neal Thompson GARDNER...this is my steel wall

    3. Nan, Thank you so much for this information. Somehow I kept slipping by these pages never seeing them. It was said that my G Grandfather was born in Philadelphia NY but for some reason there is no indication of a Prosser anywhere in Jefferson County. Just one of those things that make you go hmmm... 2. Nancy Dixon
    3. Dear listers: This mailing list is an adjunct of the Jefferson County GenWebSite, URL below. People have occasionally asked for help on the mailing list for information presented on the website. It seems a duplication of effort. Please notice that under "JEFFERSON COUNTY LOOKUPS" at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/lookups.htm Sue Vickerman has generously donated her time to make lookups for the Jefferson County Genealogical Journal. It is listed as: Genealogical Journal of Jefferson County New York, Index. The Family Tree, Patricia James, ed. A periodical published four times yearly from 1989-1996, and then annually for 1997 and 1998. I have all editions of this publication. Contains vital records, church records, military records, naturalization records, census records, and a wealth of information on people living in Jefferson County. Most information is from about 1820 to the late 1800s. Sue will be on vacation, times noted under lookup, but if you can wait a couple of weeks until she returns home, I'm sure she can supply the information. If someone else answers more quickly, that's fine. This is only a plea for listers, especially new ones, to explore the GenWebSite before asking for help. Help just might lurk right there in front of you! Please don't construe this as a complaint against asking for help on this list! I do it, too! THAT'S WHAT IT'S FOR! I'm just suggesting that SOMETIMES it might be faster to check the index to the website. 2. Mike Kennedy
    3. Greeting: I am looking for a list of the employees of the Davis Sewing Machine Company who came to Dayton Ohio in late 1889 and early 1890. The newspaper printed a story that included a list of the second or third group to move, but the first group may be the one I need. I hope someone can provide a copy or would know if there are any company records on file somewhere. Thanks for any help. Mike Kennedy Dayton Ohio

    1. Jewettsville School
    2. Shirley Farone
    3. Good work, Mark, on the Jewettsville School. Most people probably never heard of the community called Jewettsville in Jefferson County, N. Y. -- but thanks for proving to us that there is one. Now....if someone can help me out with verification that there was a community called Lodi Hill, I'll be happy. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I thought there was a school (wood frame bldg.) there -- in the Town of Hounsfield, just as one goes across the river into Dexter. And.....I was thinking just the other day about a school (wood frame bldg.) on Paddy Hill....that would be the Town of Hounsfield, also, wouldn't it? I think I remember where it was....at the end of the so-called community of Paddy Hill, on the left before heading out toward Watertown. I have a feeling it was where the gas station is now located.
