    1. [NYJEFFER] Cemetery records and Rev War VEt markers
    2. Russell Sprague
    3. There are records at the usgenweb site for the county. From www.usgenweb.org, click 'New York' then 'choose a county' and select Jefferson county. You may want to repeat your query to include the surname(s) of interest and any known birth, death, marriage dates, places of residence etc. Somebody on the mail list might have quite a bit to share but you've not indicated the name(s) you are reseaching. 3. Nan, I just took a quick look at this, but it appears that the "old cemetary" in Antwerp is no included and I think there are a fair number of vets buried there (I know my ancester who fought in the war is). Has no one indexed that cemetary? -- Bob Forsythe Permit Project Manager Endangered Habitats Conservancy 619/584-4143 Quoting Nan Dixon <[email protected]>: > The index for all our cemetery records is at > http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/cemdex.htm > > Most of them are found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/bartlett.htm > Rev Vets are noted, and are also found under Revolutionary Veterans. > > Nan Dixon > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > >

    1. Re: [NYJEFFER] Cemetery records and Rev War VEt markers
    2. Hi Rose Youn can go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/cemdex.htm Here you will find transcriptions' of various Cemeteries. Many but not all cemeteries are listed. The Rev War Soldierrs are not always individually marked but if a stone was available at the time of the survey he could be listed (some stones not readable)..You will find that some of the Veterans are noted. Transcriptions give you a guide for finding burial locations of Ancestora but cannot be used as a document in any lineage organizaton as they required exact proof. Some transcriptions have had changes to DOB and DOD and spellings of the Surname from the original source or stone from where they were taken. Although done in good faith by someone, that original record never should be changed; Transcriptions should be just that and done as the original source found states. If additional information shows different it can be added as a footnote only and the source should be clearly defined. There are many other sources for finding a Rev War Vet and if seeking such you might want to put the name and location of your Ancestor in your email so others might we working on that family or area and can help you. In many cases you might only find the locaton where your Veteran lived and his burial site might be forever lost. Markers were made of field stone and wood years ago and many were destroyed or lost over the years. Burials were made on farms and some of these family cemeteries disappeared and the closest you will come is locating the land record. Good Luck in your search Pat R

    1. [NYJEFFER] COMPUTER CRASH - PLEASE READ
    2. This could happen to you. Last Wed. I had a computer crash. Apparently, a Hacker got into my computer and turned my Security protector in the OFF position. Found that info while trying to restore. Had received a small item re "do you want to update Windows now", which I said yes. Then I shut down and logged on with a great deal of trouble. Then a small notation in lower right hand corner stated that my Windows was a copy and not genuine. Another menu appeared in the center of the screen re "debug" which did nothing to correct the problem. Best Buy installed 2 new RAMs and reinstalled my Windows. My Windows was "hung up" and I could not even reformat so that I could reinstall Windows myself. For a fee, Best Buy told me that they could save items in "My Documents". I declined. They were not critical items, but would have been nice to have. Sept. 25th moved into new apt. complex and am using their computer in library room. The other day a gentleman was on the computer here. While waiting for him to finish had conversation about my crash. He told me that he has a friend who is A PAID HACKER. He did not give any details other than he goes in to see what programs are vulnerable. What an awakening. A Paid Hacker. Unbelievable. Sept. 25th moved into new apt. complex. Verizon tells me that my DSL will not be connected until Oct. 5th. Florence

    3. My wife and I volunteer in the Carthage Heritage Rm @ the Carthage Library and we thought your name was familiar but my wife drove down to the Library to see what she could find. There's no obit on file for a Martha Hubbard Whitaker (Whittaker). She did find where you had requested this in 2001 and was told this at that time by Laura Prievo. I felt bad when I read your E-mail saying you'd waited and waited but received no answer, but pleased when my wife found Laura's copy of the letter to you to the contrary, restoring my faith in this kind caring person.
