Dear Jefferson Co. Listers: Land records show that Silas Philetus Wilcox, his wife Elizabeth and son Clinton (born 1846) owned land in Brownville from 1846 to1855. They are all listed on the 1850 U.S. Federal Census as residents of Brownville, Jeff. Co., NY. 1860 U.S. Fed. Census, they reside in Carlyle, Clinton Co., Illinois. Elizabeth died in January 1961 and is buried in Carlyle. Clinton eventually moved to Janesville, Rock Co.,Wisconsin. We're not sure, yet, that Silas moved there also. Many different Wilcoxes owned land throughout Jeff. Co., during this period, but we haven't connected Silas with any of them. Questions: What is Silas's heritage? What is Elizabeth's maiden name? What is her heritage? We have yet to make the trek to Jefferson Co. from Oregon, but hope to do so within this new year. Many thanks for any information that you can provide. Happy 2007, Maggy Wilcox

Also at World Connect, I found a posing of yours for a Benjamin Beattie with a death of April 15, 1957 at Highland Lake, IN. Shows a marriage to Evelyn Hagadorn 23 Oct 1892. Also shown is a dau. Thanks Florence- I do have that information about Oliver and Lucy infact she got that information from me. I suspect that Oliver and Lucy might be Calvin's parents - but do not have any documentation whatsoever to that. One person a few years ago stated she thought Oliver and Lucy might be Calvin's parents - but she had to doumentation either and that is the only thing I have as to Oliver being Calvin's father. Sorry I should have also put that in my posting. Hi Denise, I don't think that I can help you. I am interested in this family only because Georgiana Johnson, daughter of Edward and Adelaide married into my Gosier (Albert, also known as Bert) family. I have that Georgiana had siblings Emma and Frank, I didn't know about Joseph and there may be more siblings. Georgiana was born, in Canada, May 10, 1873, seventeen years after Joseph. No doubt you have tried the Jefferson county roots web site (www.rootsweb.com/ ~nyjeffer/) Good Luck. Would like to find the death dates and place of burial of Alonzo HOLLEY, b about 1802, and his wife Rebecca Jane BROWN, b. about 1806. Both were living with a nephew, William G. BROWN of Ellisburg in 1880. Any help on this couple would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi all, Happy New Year, here's hoping you'll knock down those brick walls in the new year. Researching : Joseph Johnson born 1856 or 57 in Coteau Landing ,Quebec married Margaret Tierney(Tiernan) on Oct 7,1877 in St.Mary's Church Clayton,Jefferson County,NY. Joseph is the son of Edward Johnson and Adelaide Deschamps I am looking for a date of death for both Joseph and his wife and burial place.I know Joseph was still alive in 1930 as he is recorded on the census for Clayton. However,Margaret does not appear after 1918 shows as owning and operating a farm in 1918 in Clayton. Any help would be appreciated Regards.........Denise And Pat,welcome aboard as our new administrator.
My Little League coach when I was 11 was named Beattie. That was in Carthage. He was a barber and I think his first name was James. You may want to check with Laura Prievo at the Carthage Free Library about him. -- Bob Forsythe Permit Project Manager Endangered Habitats Conservancy 619/584-4143 Quoting Tammy Kocienski <[email protected]>: > I am seeking parents and other information for Benjamin Beattie, born > 1869, died in Watertown in 1957, married 23 Oct 1893 in Sacketts Harbor, > Evelyn Hagadorne born in Corinth, Saratoga Co. 21 Feb 1875, died in > Watertown 11 Jul 1938. I have a special interest in South Champion Cemetery. This cemetery is abandoned and is located at the corner of State Route 12 and Switzer Road, in the western part of the Town of Champion. I have done an index of this cemetery starting with the index from the Flower Library and then I went stone to stone in the cemetery. I also have it partially mapped so you can tell who is buried near who, and I have a few pictures of headstones. I will do lookups. For Sheila: The paragraph to which Jeanette Childs refers is: The town of Henderson began to settle under the agency of Asher Miller, of Rutland, about 1802, the land books showing that Thomas Clark, Samuel Stewart, Philip Crumnett, John Stafford, and Peter Cramer had taken up lands in this town, to the extent of 1,195 acres, on October 26 previous. Moses Barrett, William Petty, Daniel Spencer, Captain John Bishop and sons Calvin, Luther, Asa, and Sylvester, Jedediah and James McCumber, Samuel Hubbard, Elijah Williams, Levi Scofield, William Johnson, David Bronson, John and Marvel Danley, Andrew Dalrymple, Luman Peck, Jonathan Crapo, George W. Clark, Thomas Drury, Anthony Sprague, Daniel Forbes, Emory Osgood, and many others settled within two or three years from the opening of settlement, being mostly emigrants from New England. Typed from Childs' Histories of the Towns of Jefferson County and on my website at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~twigs2000/henderson.html Also, mention of Bishop Street appeared several paragraphs before the above entry: BISHOP STREET (p. o.) is a small hamlet in the eastern part of the town. It has one church (Methodist Episcopal), saw-mill, wagon shop, wood turning works, a telephone office, and about 100 inhabitants. HUNTER, DAYTON, SHANNON, PARKER, GILTZ, WILLIAMS, PIERCE, BACON, BLEVINS Searching for parents and siblings of Thomas Hunter b 1824 in NY and died 1893 in Plessis, Jefferson Co, NY. Married in about 1863 to Ann Dayton Shannon b. 1829 (parents Joel Dayton Jr. and Pervilla Parker) and lived on a farm outside of Plessis on "Hunter Road". Ann had previously married William E. Shannon and had children Derinda M. (married Albert Giltz) and Gilbert (married Nettie/Jeanette Williams and then Jennie Pierce). Thomas and Ann had children Minnie E. Hunter b. 1864 (married James Henry Bacon) and Alvaro Hunter b. 1865 (married Ida May Blevins). All are buried in the Plessis Brookside Cemetery. I have LOTS of information on all of Thomas and Ann's children's famiies and Ann and William's children's families and would be happy to share with others. One census states that Thomas' parents were born in PA. Thomas had a brother John living with him. Land records found in Watertown show him buying land in about 1864 but I have searched census reports in Jeff Co and can't find him anywhere before that date. Death certificate, his will and land records give no parent/sibling information. Any suggestions, connections, hints or information would be greatly appreciated to any of the surnames above. I've visited Flower Memorial Library and the County Courthouse in Watertown and the Watertown Daily Times Archives room and many internet sites. I've been working at this brick wall for 35 years!
