The indices for the first two, for 2004 and 2005 can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/wtobitdx.htm . 2006 is completed but we haven't received it yet, but hope to get it next week. Remember, these are not the obituaries themselves, but an index giving the date of the issue and the page number. For instructions on how to obtain a copy of the obit, you might contact Lisa Carr at <[email protected]>. Nan Dixon

    3. While it's of little help, I keep seeing people asking about families with the name of "Cole" and there were families by that name in Carthage when I was growing up there in the '50s and '60s. 1. [NYJEFFER] Ancestors of Olive Graves Whittier (b. abt 1813)
    2. Teresa Culver
    3. My 2007 Jefferson County genealogy wish would be to confirm the parents of Olive Graves. According to the 1850-1870 Censuses and cemetery transcription, her birth 1811-1813 and in New York. Most likely 1812. By 1850 she is married to Stillman Whittier and in Depauville, Clayton, New York. Probably marrying by 1830. The most likely tie parent, is David Graves (b. 25 Jun 1773). Watertown Genealogy Library had a Graves family group, listed as the Graves family of Clayton. 1840 Census appears to be this David in Orleans, Jefferson Co. David dies before 1850, and the family seems to have left by the 1850 census. David came from Vermont and may have had two wives. This family group includes: Lucinda b. 1802; Polly b. 1804; Hiram b. 1807; David b. 1809 (m. Orilla Judith Horr); Judith b. 1811; Olive b. 1813; Belinda b. 1815 m. G. Washington Vincent; Joseph b. 1817; Sylvia b. 1819; Jacob b. 1821; Lorias b. 1823; Wm. b. 1826; Annis b. 1829; John b. 1832. David jr was apparently born in Vermont. Can anyone confirm or disprove whether Olive daughter of David is the Olive wife of Stillman? Thanks Teresa (tbc8 at cornell.edu)

I think Joseph may be the son of John/Jonathon and Hulda (Unknown) Price. The John and Hulda lead seem most likely, as they are found as neighbors in Herkimer County as late as 1850 and residents since 1800 - with matching census data for children in residence in 1810, 1820, 1830. I think John (Johannes) is the son of Nicolaus and Maria PRIES - based on a baptism documented at Reformed Protestant Dutch Church, German Flatts Twp, Herkimer, New York. Does any have any research to validate or refute the parentage of Joseph? Any leads as to the maiden name of Gitty? BTW - I descend from the Joseph Price m. Gitty (Unknown) line. 3. Searching for my 3rd Great Grandfather's parents. Augustus Bingham born 1809 Augustus died while in the civil war in New Orleans 1863, and is buried somewhere there. Have not located the site as yet. Augustus Bingham married Marinda Glass in or near Theresa, N.Y. in 1833 or 1834 (Marinda stated 1833, in a legal paper. Dexter Wilder (?) Clerk of Jefferson County stated that Nathan W. Flowers, Justice of the Peace married them in 1834. Marinda was born in 1813 in Jefferson County (as far as we know) Besides living in Theresa N.Y., they also spent time in Rodman and Watertown. I have been in contact with the Flowers library, with out luck so far. Marinda's parents are Ezra and Permila (Woodward) Glass About 1857 they and their children moved west to Wisconsin. First to Rock County then Richland County. Any leads appreciated. Bob Warren

    3. Hi folks, I will be making an update to the Jefferson County NY Pioneer Portraits Project website soon and I thought I'd remind veterans of this list as well as newcomers of this resource: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/jefferson/ppp/ This website contains freely-available pictures of people who lived in Jefferson County prior to 1865. Most of the pictures are generously donated for display by individuals from their family's own collection, and some are from old books and websites. There are currently over 750 individuals pictured on the site! If you'd like to have a photo of someone who lived in the county before 1865 included on the website, please send a scan of the picture to [email protected] -- include the person's name, year of birth and death of known and the town in which they lived, please. (Arrangements can be made for sending pictures via postal mail too). Thanks, and enjoy! Mark Wentling

    3. Hello Gary, So perhaps you can solve this riddle. I have a Ruth Freeman (born about 2 June 1784, died 1 March 1854, buried Sanford's Corner Cemetery, Le Ray, Jefferson County, NY). She was married to Joshua Fredenburg. In 1805, their son George was baptized in Minden, NY. This family is possibly in Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, NY for the 1810 Census. Otherwise, we have no idea where they originated. As far as I know, she is not related to any of the other Jefferson County Freemans, but that could be wrong. Any ideas?
