I found some Samuel Nuttings in Jean Thwaits genealogy database no Garret Read - Also a Stephen Read md to a Mary with no last name. think the b dates are too early for the one you are looking for. I don't know how to use Family Tree Maker so not handy finding someone - in Paf all you have to do is scroll down and it shows the marriages with the person.. I also checked the spelling Reed the early land records are (or I should say were in the County clerks bldg). was some books there with the old records. Wouldn't hurt to look in the Oneida records Alice Corbett ----- Original Message ----- From: "Evelyn Bayna" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 07, 2007 3:46 PM Subject: Re: [NYJEFFER] Nutting - Read > Hi, Alice: > I'm looking for a Nutting/Read connection. > > I found a passage in The History of Jefferson County that Stephen Read > sold > his land to his brother in law Samuel Nutting about 1817. I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the Rose family that may have resided in Jefferson county, New York. Melvina Rose Johnson (1823-1886) was the wife to Alberto Johnson who was my gg grandfather. I was wondering if anyone has any information on Melvina's parents...I do not have dates on them but I believe that their names are: Alfred Rose and Mahala Rose. Please help. Thank you! Hi Alice You can still go to: http://www.rootsweb.com/ and go down to the Heading that states Mailing Lists and Click on the one saying "Index". When you get to that section you can go down and put in NYJeffer and Search or just above it in the 6th paragraph you can still click where it states "click here" and it will take you to the section where you can either Search or Browse. Anytime you have a question feel free to email me directly Alice. Also I have researched NUTTING and have a lot of information on that family. But I was not the one asking for that Read connection. Hello and Welcome Everybody I would like to thank everyone for the great respond that we have had on the Mailing List with all theses requests asking for information. All of these queries will not be answered immediately as it takes time for others to check their records, books and etc. to see if they have the information you are seeking. Patience is one important virtue of good Genealogy. "Good Genealogy is not Fast and Fast Genealogy is not Good". I would also like to WELCOME all the new Mailing List subscribers at the [email protected] and hope we can be of help to you. If you haven't already sent us a query please do so. We are willing and waiting to hear from you. NOTE: 1. Be sure to read the tips on how to write your query to make it more effective and what is permissable on this Mailing List before sending it. When in question contact me directly.. NOTE: 1 (b): There will be a separate Email (from this) where I will clarify expected guidelines on queries and "How to write an effective Query" for this Mailing List It will be will be marked from [email protected] Administrator.and I advise all Listers to read it and print a copy for your records. . I would like to mention a couple very important things regarding this List: 1.This List is for people seeking Genealogical information regarding the Location, Records or People living in the County of Jefferson, New York State or who previously lived or had some connection to Jefferson County. So please make mention of Jefferson County or a specific location in Jefferson in your requests. 2. There will be NO MENTION of MONEY for services offered at anytime on this list. This refers to requests by an individual or offers by an individual. This list is based on people willing to do a service or help a fellow lister as an ACT of KINDNESS. In other words this list is not for soliciting or prmoting monetary gain for anyone. If a request is made in error I personally will direct the respond. 3. As the Administrator I am required to maintain the List and that includes making the Guidelines for this List. So I will contact people to clarify their queries, intervene to resolve any problems, and direct and review the emails that are submitted. I will also determine what falls within these guidelines and I urge you if you have any questions that you email me directly at: [email protected] 4. Genealogy is the main purpose of this list. History is very closely associated with Genealogy and both of these topic's go hand and hand. So that makes Historical mention permissable. Also any "How To" or Where To Look" Topics are included. At times we have other things (within a fine line) that might be worthwhile or be of interest that do not quite fit under the terminology of Genealogy. If you would like to include anything and your not sure it will meet the guidelines, just drop me and line and discuss it prior to sending your email. We can be flexible when necessary. 5. Sending queries alone will not do your entire Genealogy for you. They are only another "tool" to gain the knowledge of where to look, how to look, places to look, help seek other researchers, find cousins in the same immediate family and exchange genealogical research and history. It is up to you to follow through with these "clues" and complete your own family history. I wish everyone success and "Good Luck" with responds on their queries. Do not give up easily, as a seasoned researcher never gives up and continues to diligently and thoroughly search every source and never leaves "an unturned stone". Warm Regards to all my [email protected] Listers Pat Regan Email: [email protected] [email protected] Mailing List Administrator
Hello [email protected] Listers IMPORTANT: Please read the following as it tells you "how to" write an effective Query and "what to" include. It also tells you about "Poor Query Examples" . Those are the queries that you will be sent an email regarding, requesting you send another corrected email or one clarifying them. I will also note a "Poor Query Example" that is totally unacceptable and request that they be avoided on this List. To eliminate any misunderstanding please read this and try to follow the format as closely as possible. A Good Surname Genealogical Query Starts and Includes: 1. Surname or Full Name ( in Capitals preferred) 2. State Specific Information you are seeking (such as wife, husband, children, parents or female Maiden name). Stay focused on Alice Smith 3. Specific Location should be stated and specific Dates 4. Mention of any close knit families or collatral families 5. List all other information you have on Alice Smith 6, List all Resources that you have searched so that people reading your query will know what records you already have. 7. Reread and clarify before sending An Example: (Note the following is all with fictious Names that are Not Real) Heading - RE: SMITH, Alice, B 1835 Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY Alice Smith my GG Grandmother was B about 1835 Watertown, Jefferson County NY. I believe that the family of David and Jane Collier, including sons Lewis, George, Chester and Miles were in the area of Cape Vincent in the mid 1870's. Miles drowned in May of 1875 I am trying to locate where they lived, any record of employment for David, etc. By 1880 Jane is shown as a widow with 3 sons in Illinois. I would appreciate any information about the family. Bruce Collier San Luis Obispo, CA

Searching for any information about Henry Gould as follows: Henry Gould born before 1800 in New York. Contracted with Elisha Camp to purchase lot 37, 75 acres, for $300 on Grindstone Island Oct 13, 1823. FHL film #892536. Henry never consummated that purchase and presumably died prior to the 1830 census. Additionally an I. Gould - perhaps a brother - verbally contracted to purchase 50 acres for $200. There is at least one other Gould family in the area (Amos), but I do not see any connection with Henry. Three sons: Alex b.Feb 1820 in NY - my gr gr grandfather Allen b.Dec 12, 1825, Clayton, Jefferson Co., NY Aaron b.Jan 15, 1827, NY Mother of Alex unknown (see note following) Mother of Allen and Aaron is Elizabeth McMillian b. Nov 18, 1804, NY. She marries 2nd James Bennett b. 1804 presumably in Jefferson Co., NY. She is head of household in Lyme, Jefferson Co., NY in the 1830 census with the 3 boys and several others. In the 1835 NY state census she and James Bennett are listed in Clayton. They are in Wisconsin in the 1840 census. (Alex's Mom is probably not Elizabeth McMilliam who seems too young and a later piece of data says she had 12 children with James Bennett and 2 from a prior marriage.) This is absolutely all I know about Henry Gould and am searching for ANY clue or piece of data concerning him or I. Gould or the rest of the family listed above. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have contacted Grindstone Island Historical Society and the man I talked to knew less than I about Henry Gould - he never heard of him and made zero suggestions. I also contracted with a researcher in the area who failed to look on the Island, preferring to search the Jefferson Co records that I have already researched. Alex marries Rachel Butterfield in 1846 (probably in WI). She seems to be born June 1819 in Rodman, Jefferson Co., NY to Jonathan Butterfield b.Dec 10, 1777 Cheshire, NH in and Clarissa Person/Pearson. They leave Jefferson Co., NY for Nunda, Allegany Co., NY between the 1825 NY census in Rodman and the 1830 census in Nunda. His father Jonathan died May 4, 1818 in Rodman and I have his will. Thank you in advance and I apologize for the length of this query. Please feel free to contact me Shirley Steele [email protected]
Hi, Alice: I'm looking for a Nutting/Read connection. I found a passage in The History of Jefferson County that Stephen Read sold his land to his brother in law Samuel Nutting about 1817. There is no Samuel Nutting in the 1820 or 1830 census for Henderson tho. There are plenty of other Nuttings. I'm hoping to find Garret B. Read's Parents and perhaps the above Stephen Read might be his father. Where should I look. I checked the Deeds for Jefferson county but couldn't find any for the above transaction could it be in Oneida's records. Gloria, Worth isn't too far from Lorraine and was taken from that community in the early 1800's. As for Clarissa's full name, I have seen it as Clarissa and Clarisey so I'm not sure which name she actually went by and which maybe her legal name. As posted I only know of one listing with her husband being SAUNDERS or SANDERS surname. Their father died young (early 1850's) and the children disbursed to other family members. Where these two went I'm not sure. Their Mother, Keziah Moore stayed with a son in Lorraine NY and two other siblings stayed with their Grandfather Eli Moore in Ellisburg NY. The other siblings were married and had families of their own. I have seen various postings re where is ____ (town), the latest being Worth. I went to www.google.com and entered Worth Jefferson County New York Map. The heading below is the fourth listing that came up. "What to do in Jefferson county, New York". After you click on the heading you will see a listing of all the towns in Jefferson County. Click on the green spot and view the map of your choice. If you have a U.S. road map book, it would be helpful to refer to it. I am never without one. I had an obituary of a Flora Cornell who married first into my Claflin family, and after Sidney's death married Jerry Remington. My notebooks have been donated to Flower Memorial Library, Watertown so I don't have them handy to refer to. However, in her obituary it mentioned her coming to Worth with parents from Canada at a very young age. I vaguely recall how they used to play with the bears there. Her father had a logging operation (I think). Florence What to do in Jefferson County, New YorkNew York State Visitors Network Can't find something? ...
