    2. Nancy David Adams was B on Grindstone Island Clayton NY and is buried at Depauville Cemetery, Depauville, Jefferson County NY. You might want to take a look at the following website and Research Center http://www.grindstoneisland.org/ This Site is included on the Jefferson County GenWeb as a Link that also has other Grindstone info when you use their search http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/ However it does not given any further info on Joseph Adams. It also appears that Joseph's information is not located at this Grindstone Archives. But perhaps the Historian or Town Clerk for Clayton could help you. I feel certain that two families are represented here. The Peter Phillips who married Angeline Lago seems to be my family. Their ages are correct and the location of Theresa connects with other family info. If they were married in Watertown, that is new information for me. I have felt they married in Canada as that is where Peter was born and where many of their children were born. I will surely pursue this and my thanks to you if it proves to be true. They had a son Peter b. abt. 1846 - this could be their son. Adams is near Lorraine where they eventually lived. I was not aware of any military service, in fact I was suspicious that they may have avoided that. If the son was in the military, that gives me yet another source to follow. I appreciate the data that you have compiled. This is where we seem to part company, I do not connect the listing for Peter who is in Brookside nor the Angeline whose last name was Delong. Hopefully this will be useful to others. Many thanks - Dinaa

    3. Nancy, In our extended Perkins clan we have a Byron H. Adams, who enlisted in the Black River 10th NY Heavy Artillery. He married Hattie Perkins in June 1866 and they had a child named Charles H. Adams born August 7, 1866. In spite of the Victorian morals of the times, apparently shotgun weddings were acceptable. If you have either of these in your lineage would you please contact me and we'll see how we can help one another. Thank you! He is also distantly related to the Syracuse Eagan real estate family by marriage, through the Demong family. The Johnstown Eagans lived in England for a generation after having left Ireland. They may have lived near Galway at one point. Jim has done the DNA testing and has been connected to Eagan cousins in Australia, but the connection is something like 20 generations back and no one can figure out quite how they are related. We are not currently aware of a connection to your Egan family, but it is good to compare notes. His Jefferson county connection is through the Sweetman family.

    3. Hi- There were to be two Simeon NUTTING - one marrying Dorothy KEMP and one marrying Dorothy HUDSON. It appears these two families were confused for several years. There was a nice article a few years back about these two families. I don't remember in what newsletter or magazine this article was written but I do have a copy somewhere. A cousin and I had researched these two families at one time and had discovered the errors and our thoughts or findings were confirmed when I saw this article. I will try to locate the article again for anyone who is interested. If I remember correctly the confusion came from years ago when it was published in one of the NUTTING books. The author had the same Simeon marrying two different Dorothys. If anyone is interested in the article you can email me privately and I'll try to find it for you. 3. Hi again! Problem number 2 :Simeon and Lana(h) ADAMS My grandfather was James ADAMS KNIGHT b.1887 d.1939. He ran a Cider Mill in Rosiere area. His mother was Samantha M. ADAMS b. 1853 d. 1931, daughter of Simeon ADAMS b.~1832 and Lana(h) SCHUYLER b.~1829. Simeon and Lana traveled a lot and had several children born across the developing country: Samantha, Lyme NY, 1853 Margaret, Kane Co. Illinois, 1856 John David, Lamont, Mi, 1858 Schuyler Jay, Benona, Mi 1860 and Samuel, Mi. 1862 They went to Kansas and that is where I loose them. Lana ends up back in Jeff Co married to George VAN OSTRAND, it also appears that she may have married an ALLEN along the way. Samantha and Margaret came back to Lyme, marrying brothers James and Nelson Knight. John David settled in Kansas, Schuyler went to Washington/Idaho, And Samuel came back to Lyme. I find can not find Lana or Simeon listed anywhere. Any help would be greatly apprecaited. Nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 3. Hi all, It is the new year and here is my semi annual plea for help. I am looking for the parents of David Hanlon ADAMS b. 1883, d 1981. I have no birth cert on him. He is the son of Susannah SLATE (Grindstone) b.1843 d.1917 and Joseph ADAMS b.~1840?(Canada, maybe). I have the SLATE line. THe ADAMS line is far more difficult to trace. It has been a general belief that, David may have been born in Gananoque, Ontario, Canada, this may be pure fiction. The origional story that I was raised on was that, Davids' parents were fishermen and he was born on an island. Joseph put Susannah off to have the baby and mother and child were picked back up in the evening as the father went back to shore. As his mother was a SLATE of the Grindstone Slates, it is possible that he was born in Canada. I have been unable to track that. I have found a Joseph ADAMS and a Susannah ADAMS in one census but they are not living together. He was a farm hand, not a fisherman. Susannah's gravestone reads "wife of Joseph Adams Jr". Who was Joseph Sr? Who was Joseph, Jr.? David had a sister Charlott (Lottie) b. 1870, a brother, George b. 1877. Lottie married a George PARKER and lived in Watertown, NY. When David needed a Social Security number suposedly he went to the oldest guy in the Clayton and got him to write a note stating that he had known David all of his life and he had been born in Clayton. Fun huh? Can any one help? Nancy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

    3. Nan, I suspect that my email address is in dire need of an update. ADAMS, BUSBY, JOHNSTON, KNIGHT, MCDERMOTT, SCHUYLER, SLATE. Nancy Adams Denis: [email protected] or [email protected] both are good addresses. Thanks, Nancy Nan Dixon <[email protected]> wrote: Listers: The surnames have just been uploaded. We have a form, and for us to upload a mailing address, we have to have a name: Nan Dixon. If you prefer to be called Queen Nancy, or the toothfairy, or Chickadee, that's none of my business. Give me a name YOU recognize. Any name. Your email address. PLEASE don't neglect to include your email address. I cannot always get it from the return on your email, and our system unloads an entire page of garbage in which the cybergremlins hide your address before I get to the message. One outstanding case took four tries to get her correct email address to me. Do tell me plainly that this is to go on our surname list. If you have 10 names, providing, as your listmaster reminded you recently, they have some connection with Jefferson County New York, send them all in one email. Easier for you, easier for me.
