What time span was the family living in Jefferson County? did they remain here or migrate westward? All these details will help aid others in helping you find further details on your family. Hi Kathy When you hired a researcher didn't the researcher give you the Town that Joseph was living in while in Jefferson County NY? It would help if you could give the Town where Joseph lived in Jefferson County. Also the Given Name of the Palmer that he is living next to would be helpful. What Town and/or County was Sally Pease from? You mention their Marriage date but do not state where they were married. Were any of their children B in Jefferson County NYS? Do you descend from their son Orah? If you have any additional details it would help us in trying to locate him. There appears to be several Joseph's in Jefferson County NY. Pat R

Alice- Yes, the message boards are different than the mallists, although messages from the message boards can be gatewayed to the mallist if it is setup that way. Trying to find parents of Joseph Palmer who was living in Jefferson County during the 1815 to mid 1830's time period. He was born in Feb 17, 1785 in NY. Died 1860 in Williams County OH. Married to Sally Pease born August 5, 1785 in NY. Joseph's son Orah biography said that his parents were Joseph Palmer and Sally Pease. Orah said he was of Quaker parentage and that his father and grandfather fought in the War of 1812. He also said his grandfather was in the Rev. War- his ancestors having lived in Canada, came to America to escape serving in Tory Army, and fought for their adopted country. I have checked Census, land records, Quaker Records, and hired a researcher in Jefferson County. I am at a dead end with Joseph's parentage. In Williams County OH in 1840, he is living in close proximity with the family of Cyrenus Palmer. I suspect the two lines are related but cannot find the connection. While in Jefferson County, he is living next to a Palmer from the same line as Cyrenus Palmer. I have no living Palmer male in my line to check DNA. I keep hoping a new Palmer researcher will come along and we will connect our family lines! Kathy

Grove, The reasoning behind the surname list is to allow people working with the same surname to exchange information on that surname, and in this case surnames of people who once lived in Jefferson County, NY. You are not likely to get much help if your ancestors never left Watertown, MA, or spent their lives in Cole Camp, MO. Assuming that yours came from Jeff Co (why else be on the Jefferson County Mailing List!) yours will go up with the next upload. Dear Listers: At http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/cwant.htm you will find a list of the men from the Town of Antwerp who served in the Civil War. This is one of the poorer lists in all of Jefferson County, and we can all be thankful for Diana Law's patience and perseverance, as well as her persistence in looking up many of the items to make sure she read the faulty hand writing correctly. This is a labor of love on her part, and I do mean labor. In 1865, after the war ended, New York State required such lists from every town of every county. We are fortunate that most of the towns in Jefferson County sent theirs in. Unfortunately, the town of Antwerp evidently compiled theirs well after the fact. Undoubtedly not all the men are listed, and certainly not in the wonderful detail that some of the other towns preserved. Possibly there was a change of town clerks, and the new one did not know the men who served. The Jefferson County GenWebSite obtained copies of these town clerk records from the NYS Archives in Albany, which has on microfilm all the lists that survived. Volunteers have transcribed nearly all of them, and the Jefferson County GenWebSite at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyjeffer/> has many of them on line. Click on the index at the bottom of the Antwerp page for a listing of all the towns currently posted, as well as a wealth of other Civil War materials, such as Harold Sanderson's extensive list of soldiers and sailors from Jefferson County, as well as burials and censuses of Civil War service people. There are yet more towns to be transcribed, and other towns which have been transcribed and must be proofread. Competent volunteers are needed for this. We'd like to finish this project and go on to others! Enjoy. Nan Dixon
