Hello all, I have replied personally to Alice for sending me so much amazing information on the above families. In fact much more than I ever expected to hear. I just want to thank her publicly on the list for being so much help. I have also had great help from Ralph & Bob. That's three people in as many days, and I am absolutely delighted. My sincere thanks to you all Jackie
Hello Alice, WOW!! I can't begin to thank you enough for sending all the information on Townsend & Spencer. I know it sounds daft, but I sat reading it with tears in my eyes. It was so wonderful to see all the names of family & places. Now I have to pluck up courage to contact Tommy Hamilton. It is always a big step, and there is always the fear of the person not wanting to be involved. Again thank you so very much. Curtis last night to attend the celebration given in honor of the 94th birthday of his mother, Mrs. Lois Curtis. A very pleasing musical program had been arranged for the occasion and the feature of the evening was the offering of prayers by the principal of the evening herself, Mrs. Curtis. Many flowers were received by Mrs. Curtis from her friends. Refreshments were served during the evening. Mrs. Thompson of Dexter, a granddaughter of Mrs. Curtis, gave a reading, "Mr. and Mrs. Mann." Two children, Helen and Robert Cornwall rendered a vocal selection. Constance Hay also gave a vocal number. Rev. D. C. Johnson, pastor of the Asbury Methodist Episcopal church, followed with an address, and Mrs. Curtis was then called upon to offer prayer, a request which she complied with. Many of the old hymns were sung during the evening. Mrs. Curtis was formerly Mrs. Lois Cornwall. She was born in the town of Lorraine [Leray], May 20, 1821, and was married to Stephen Curtis, Dec. 29, 1842, in the town of her birth. Shortly after her marriage she took up her residence in Three Mile Bay, where her two sons, Albert and Byron, were born. Her husband died Oct. 28, 1879, and she came to this city immediately afterwards, making her home with her son Byron, ever since. The son, Albert, died some years ago, leaving of the children only the son with whom she lives. Mrs. Curtis has been a member of the Methodist church for over 70 years, having attended the church at Three Mile Bay. For many years she was a regular attendant at the old State street church, now Asbury Methodist Episcopal. Mrs. Curtis is still enjoying the best of health, despite her advanced years and can move about the house with much more ease than the average woman of less years.

Hello from England. Thanks to a very kind person on the Jefferson message board, who sent me a 1990 obituary, I have some names that someone may be able to help me find descendants of. Grandads cousin, Henry Ray, wife Harriet & 5 children were in Watertown in 1930. The eldest child was born in London, the next 3 in Canada, then Jane in New York 1925. I now know that Henry died in 1940, but his wife Harriet died in 1990, aged 95! By this time 2 of their children, Alice Spencer & Henry Ray had already died. I don't know if any of the following are still with us, I hope so, but if not I know that there were a lot of grandchildren. Hopefully someone will know of some connection, that will help me to get in touch with this branch of my family. In 1990 - Rose Townsend b 1919, was at Adams Centre. What or where is that? Ruby Powell b 1923, husband Samuel, in Fairfax VA. Beverly Atwell b after 1930, husband Rt Rev Henry Atwell, was rector of St Mark's Southern Episcopal Church. Watertown or Coldbrook? I look forward to hearing from someone who knows something about my grandads wandering cousin & his family. Regards Jackie
