Former Burnett Resident Called By Death Mrs. Ermina Mayhew, widow of the late George B. Mayhew and a resident of Burnett up to two years ago, passed away in death at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. Sellick, at Berryville, Arkansas, Wednesday, October 20th, at the age of 69 years. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy. The deceased was born at Burnett on January 27th, 1857, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Ames. She had made her home there continuously since with the exception of the past two years which have been spent at Madison and Oshkosh in this state and at Berryville, where she passed away. Besides her daughter, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. R. C. Quick and Miss Jennie Ames of Oshkosh and Mrs. Kate Lathrop of Juneau. Funeral services were held at Burnett on Saturday morning with interment in the Burnett cemetery. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am interested in a possible connection to Mae Ada Taylor (born 1884/1885) who went to this area at a young age from Olean, New York. It is possible that she was in the performing arts, as there is a trunk in her family that at one time held costumes. Her parents were Henry (born 1859) and Ada Mae Taylor. They had a daughter Sarah in 1838. In 1839 they moved away to Pennsylvania. Adolphus was born circa 1809. I found the following family in Jefferson County but cannot determine the age of their Adolphus Ames who might be the son of the first marriage. Unable to contact the party who put the information on the internet. 1. HORACE AMES was born about 1791, in Massachusetts. During the War of 1812 he served as a private in Captain Elisha Camps Company of Artillery attached to the regiment commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Bellinger, New York Militia. Horace Ames died 19 March 1855, and is buried in the Burnett Corners Cemetery near Burnett, Dodge County, Wisconsin. He married (1) unknown. Children of first marriage, AMES: 2 i LOVISA AMES 3 ii HENRY HORACE AMES 4 iii ALFRED AMES He married (2) on 29 October, 1834, at Ellisburg, Jefferson County, NY, Martin E. Cook, Minister of the Gospel, officiating. HANNAH BELL who was born about 1801 in Massachusetts. Following their marriage they lived in Hounsfield and Henderson in Jefferson County. The 1830 census for New York lists five male and four female children living with Horace Ames. These are probably children by his first wife (name unknown).
