    2. I saw the message posted by Carol Madsen re: Helmers. Carol refers to Adam Helmer. Adam Helmer has a place in history. Somewhere in Herkimer County there is a historic marker that I remember seeing as my family took Sunday drives. I remember a reference to "Adam Helmer's Run". I believe that he ran across the countryside to warn a settlement of an imminent attack by hostile Indians. (Something like that - it's been a long time!) Someone residing in Herkimer County may be able to share the details of this event. I live in Texas now, so I can't research it.
