Judy There is (was) a hamlet named Fairfield near Middleville, NY and north of Herkimer. It was the site of one of the first medical schools so I've been told. The school building may have disintegrated by now as there was an unsuccessful attempt to have it placed on the National Historic register. I would look to Middleville town clerks for a lead to where Fairfield records are kept today.
