The following obit is one I posted to the Allegany Co. Obituary board -- anyone who can claim him, can have the submitter's name changed. THOMAS J. EVANS of Black Creek, the last member of Barlte Post of the Grand Army of The Republic who saw service at the front, died at his home Monday afternoon, Nov. 4. He had been in failing health for several years, but his last illness was of but a week's duration. Thomas Jefferson Evans was born at Schuyler, Herkimer County, July 17, 1844, the son of William H. and Anna EVANS EVANS, both natives of Wales. Mr. Evans' family came to the vicinity of Farmersville when he was a child, and there he was married in 1866 to MIANDA J. HILLMAN, who survives her husband. he enlisted at Utica in the 2nd New York Heavy Artillery, Company D, and saw much active service. He was in several engagements and was wounded at the battle of Spottsylvania Court House.
