Hi folks, My 2g-grandfather, John J. Thorp of Little Falls, Herkimer Co., NY, was born 1848 in Rural Grove, Montgomery Co., and died 1925 in Little Falls or Utica, Herkimer Co. His obituary says he was "bereft of his mother at age two" -- which means his mother Catherine Shull, wife of Prof. Joshua Thorp, died in 1850. I have notes from John's daughter Ethel that Catherine died and was buried in Rockwood, Fulton Co., NY, but I can't find Rockwood on any map. Does anyone know where Rockwood is? I am trying to learn the heritage of Ebenezer Thorp, Joshua's father, and a pioneer settler of Root, Montgomery Co., and I am going through the "back door" of where Catherine and Joshua were living when she died.
