    3. I'm searching for information on the following elusive people: Dennis V. Shaft (War of 1812) whose wife was Diane Doty. Census indexes tell us that in 1810 Dennis is in Herkimer Co., NY, 1820 in Oneida Co., NY, 1830 in Madison Co., NY and in Onondago Co., NY in 1840. In 1850 he shows up in Shiawassee Co., MI living with an Alexander, Harriet and Henry Shaft (no relationship given but are probably his children). Dennis V. was born in either 1774 or 1784 (census vs. pension file) and had at least one daughter named Christina. I have no further information on Diane Doty. Also living in Onondago Co. in 1840 is a Dennis Watkins. On the 1850 census, Dennis Watkins is living next door to Dennis V. Shaft in Michigan. Jacob V. Shaft (b. about 1809/1810), married Margaret Jane Putnam (b. about 1820) in 1836 in Geneva, Ontario Co., NY. It said in the marriage record that Jacob V. was from Canastota, Madison Co., NY, and that Margaret was from Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., NY. We have a lot of information on Jacob V. and Margaret's descendants but have never found any more information regarding where and when they were born or who their parents were. We also have no idea why they went to Geneva to marry. Even though Dennis V. Shaft and Jacob V. Shaft have the same middle initial, we have no proof of their relationship - but I'd love to find some! Any help on these Shafts, Dotys, Watkins and Putnams would be much appreciated. Thanks. Judy Breedlove [email protected] Researching: Shaft, Putnam/Putman, Doty, Drum, Sherry, Stone, Toby, Watkins
