Marsha, I guess it was the "main Drag" .If you came off the old Rte 8 and went down the hill over the railroad tracks and then started back up the hill again ,on the right there was a stream with a small bridge, On that stream was an Old mill with a water wheel. next was the coal company and then my Dads house, then the hill starts upward and when I was small late 1930s, there was a market? any way the y killed some pigs there and I saw it and it grossed me out to see how they were killed. My mother was mad at me for going up there. Across from the coal company sitting down off the road was a barn and a stand of spruce trees and then a little way up on the hill was a big old white house. Big to me back then. Two old ladies lived there. lI was so hoping that someone might have a picture or a bill of sale or something that they would share with me of the Sauquoit Coal Co. My brother said my dad had a" Sauquoit Valley Tool service " in the old mill for a short time. Then he left to go to Griffith AB during the war. I was born in Clayville in 1934. My widowed Grandfather married a women called Addie Kincade in 1940, short lived she wiped out his bank accounts and took off. My Uncle Bill lived in my Dads old house next to the coal co. He married Grace Brown and died in Cassville in 1991.. My Dad Fred Jury married Julia Swift in 1925 and they had me and four boys. The new Route 8 runs through where this all was and when I went home last summer was so disappointed as I wanted to show my daughter where her great grandfather had lived. My Grandfather died at our home in Floyd at my Dads house in 1948. But he still lived at the coal co in an apartment upstairs., but my Dad had brought him to our house as he complained of chest pains. Well hope maybe you can fill me in on some stories and If not it was so good to hear from someone, "from home'" Thanks again for writing to me , hope we can connect on something.
