I recently purchased Barker's CD, and there is quite a bit of information on the KLOCK family that I have not entered. One of these days (i.e., months), I will get Barker's data entered into my database. In reviewing the report shown below, I notice an unlikely relationship: Did Jacob Klock actually married his NIECE Catherine NELLIS. Is this correct? My husband's line continues through the Catherine NELLIS' marriage to Adam ZIMMERMAN (their dau Catherine ZIMMERMAN m. Frederick SNELL, Jr.). Kim Branagan FIRST GENERATION 1. In 1725, he obtained 650 acres, Lot #12 of the Harris Patent, land held in the family of Christian Nellis until about 1887, when it was sold to a Nellis relation. Christian was listed as a freeholder at Canajoharie in 1763. Jeptha R. Simms, the 1882 author of Frontiersman of New York (2 vols., Geo. C. Riggs Publisher, Albany, NY), classified Christian Nellis as the head of one of the wealthiest and "best" families in the Palatine district; that he was a patentee of Freys Bush land in 1767. Simms also indicated that Christian's house was not far from Fort Klock, was strengthened, and called Fort Nellis. Smith indicated that the structure, which may be the Nellis Tavern, was a farm house constructed by Christian Nellis in 1747. Remaining in the family, a second story addition and a wing were added to create a tavern and store in 1790. The tavern is now on the National Register of Historic Places and is being restored.
