Bernie, I'm sorry I can't help much with your BUCHANAN-FURMAN problem, but I am also looking for information on Furman from the Herkimer Co. area and there may be a connection. Maria BADER (b. 1808, bap. 1809 at Minden, Mont. Co.) md. a Furman who's first name is unk. Maria is the daughter of Jacob Bader/BAUDER/PAUTER/POTTER and Gertraut WIETING. Maria's parents relocated several times in Herk/Mont/Scho/Otsego counties. Her sister Elizabeth "Betsey" (b. 1819, bap. 1820 at Fort Plain) md. Johannes FULMER Jr. and had at least one child bap. in German Flatts c. 1839. I know very little about Maria and/or her husband. She was alive in 1860 when she was mentioned as "Maria Furman" in the settlement of her father's estate (no location given). About 1845 Maria's parents moved from the Mohawk Valley to western NY State. I assume Maria (age mid-30s) was married by then, so I don't know if she stayed in the Mohawk Valley, moved to western NY or moved elsewhere. Two of her siblings moved to PA and two others to MI.
