Cheryl, All (or most) counties in the state of New York are divided into Towns. The Town contain the cities, villages (formal political organizations), and various wide spots in the road regarded as hamlets. Warren, Russia, Columbia, Herkimer, and Manheim are Towns. I find: BULLOCK, MARY, (ca. 1783 - 14 Aug 1842) w/o Jacob. buried in the Town of Russia. The usual migration sequence from Herkimer County (in 1820s) was Oneida, Lewis and Jefferson County not Lewis and Oneida County. This is because the Town of Poland abuts the Town of Remsen, Barneveld, Prospect, Trenton, Oneida County. Of course, this is mentioned as another possibility. If you haven't explored the Mormon Church records, this might give you some clues. Their resources are awesome but of various degrees of quality. Nevertheless, you might try this resource. Their website is http://www.familysearch.com Their Family History Centers are usually better to use because they are more efficient, are better organized for the researcher, and you can copy copious records via computer in a very short time. If you don't know how to find such a place, let me know. randy p.s. If you want a good map, here is one that might help. "Central Leatherstocking Region of New York", Map Works/Good Beginnings, Inc. 2125 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624, 1-800--822.MAPS Covers 9 counties. The cost is about $4. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Cahaas2@aol.com> To: <NYHERKIM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2001 5:36 AM Subject: [NYHERKIM] Re: Shaw in Herkimer Co. > I'm sorry I didn't offer enough information before.
