    1. [NYHERKIM] 1807: Immigration from Scotland to Herkimer County
    2. Hello, I haven't been on this list in a long time. I am trying to figure out which ship my ancestor arrived on. According to an 1812 List of UK Citizens, my Malcolm CAMPBELL (as well, perhaps, his wife, Sarah More and his son Dugall) arrived in the US on 9/13/1807. I am wondering if those who know more than I about Herkimer County (Russia/Newport) might know if there was a popular travel route in 1807; i.e., did many of those Scots (his neighbors) at that time travel via ship to NYC, or might they travel via ship to Canada? And after they arrived in either NYC, Canada or other places, how did they get from the coast to Herkimer County? If I can get some "perhaps," that will give me less ports to seach. I do know that his arrival was, again, 9/13/1807. But I guess it's possible that his arrival could be by ... horses? If anyone has any ideas at all where I could start (are there ship arrivals on line? why did Scots leave and go to Herkimer County at that time?), please let me know. All the best. Betty G.
