    1. [NYHERKIM] REESE in Herkimer County
    2. Amy Rupp
    3. For the record, I have visited the Family Search archives as well as every free and paid site out there! :-) I am seeking information on the children of John and Elinor Reese, who emigrated from Carmarthagenshire, Wales, to the United States in 1806. They settled and lived their lives in Oneida County, specifically Marcy toward the end of their days, but their son David moved to Frankfort, Herkimer County, and his descendants' trail ends there for me. David REES(E) was born ca 1789 in Wales and died between 1870 and 1880, very likely in Frankfort, Herkimer County, New York. He was a farmer. He married a Nancy ? born 1798 in Connecticut but would have married in either Oneida or Herkimer Counties. She died between 1860 and 1870. They had two known children: John B. REESE born November 1828 Mary A. REESE born 1836 Mary was present, aged 14, in the 1850 Census, but not in the 1860 Census, when she would have been aged 24. I have no information on death or marriage. John B. REESE lived past the 1900 Census in Frankfort; he married a Louisa ? born January 1838 in New York, with parents born in New York. They were married between June 1859 and June 1960 because the Census year finds them married within the past year. They had two children, of which both were living at the time of the 1900 Census according to Louisa. They were: David REESE born December 1860 Ella K. REESE born 1873 Ella must have married by 1900 when she was 27, because she was not living with her parents, yet her mother said she was alive. David married first a Sarah Anderson, born about 1870, died after 1891 in Frankfort, Herkimer County. They had a daughter: Carrie REESE (Caroline?) born 23 September 1891 died 1989 in Frankfort married 5 Jan 1916 to Pattison Seedon Hall. I have no children for them, though I believe there are some living. Apparently she may have conflicted with her stepmother, as she was double enumerated in the 1900 Census as living with both her parents and her paternal grandparents. Of interest is the fact that her paternal grandparents were exactly correct with her month and year of birth, whereas her father and/or step-mother were several years off. David remarried about 1892 to a Mattie, born May 1867 in Canada. The 1900 Census indicated that she had borne two children, of which one was Stella Rosabiro born in New York aged 10, and the other was David REESE born July 1893. I have no further information on him other than there is a David Reese listed in a 1917 Frankfort business directory as a "farmer florist" but it does not say whether it is David Sr. or Jr. In 1920, David was possibly living with Walter W. and Sarah Daley (sp)? on Litchfield Road, where he is listed as a *son* (not stepson) despite having a completely different last name, and the fact that the information on Sarah and Mattie does not match Sarah's in any way. He is a carpenter. The closest SSDI match I could find was: born 13 Jul 1894 d. Aug 1893 in Clark County, Wisconsin, with his SSN issued in Wisconsin. There are other David Reeses born in 1890 but none had their SSNs issued or died in New York. Any help would be vastly appreciated. To sum: David REESE b. 1786 Wales d. after 1870 Frankfort m. Nancy ? b. 1798 New York d. 1860-1870 Frankfort married between 1820-1828 1) John B. REESE b. November 1828 d. after 1900 Frankfort m. Louisa ? b. Jan 1838 d. after 1900 Frankfort m. between June 1859-1860 2) Mary A. REESE b. 1936 married or died before 1860 Children of 1) were: 1)a. David REESE b. December 1860 d. after 1900 m. first Sarah Anderson b. abt. 1870 died after 1891 Frankfort m. second Mattie ? (married name Rosabino?) b. May 1867 in Canada to English born parents) m. abt 1892 d. after 1900 1)b Ella K. REESE b. 1863 married before 1900 Child of 1)a)1 was: 1)a)1 Carrie b. 23 Sept 1891 d. 1989 m. Pattison Seedon Hall b. abt 1890 in England; married 5 Jan 1916 in Frankfort 1)a)2 David b. Jul 1893 1)a)1 Carried had several children, some of whom might be living; I do not know what has become of David. Any help greatly appreciated... eg marriages or cemetery descriptions would be very helpful. Thank you! Amy Rupp

    3. Gee, Amy, you did such a great job giving details I just have to ask this simple. innocent question: Did you see if are genealogical data of the REESE members you seek in a County History? About 1890-1920 there were a quantity of County Histories published. The histories usually contained a lot of genealogical data of early settlers IN the county. If you haven't done this, go to your local library and ask them to ask via the Interlibrary Loan Service to obtain such volumes. I presume that although you have gone to a Mormon Church Family History Center, they don't have any records of births of the REESEs from the Auld Sod. Beware that REESE is the consistent way the surname was spelled. For parents of some of these persons, IF they died after about 1895, there is a chance you could find the parents of these persons on a death certificate. I realize these persons you may have such data. my best, randy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amy Rupp" <amyr@jump.net> To: <NYHERKIM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 12:57 PM Subject: [NYHERKIM] REESE in Herkimer County > For the record, I have visited the Family Search archives as well as every free and paid site out there! :-) > > I am seeking information on the children of John and Elinor Reese, > who emigrated from Carmarthagenshire, Wales, to the United States > in 1806. 3. Amy, In the 1925 Herkimer County directory, there is a David Reese listed in Frankfort listed as a farmer, living on Reese Rd. It also says that he has a wife named Rose. Just as a side note, Reese Rd. is still there today and Reese Rd School is on it. Hope this helps some.
