In the meantime -- back at the Ranch -- if you don't live within walking distance of Herkimer County - the FHC, used with sufficient wariness, is a place to start when you've looked other places with zero results. randy, Seattle, Washington ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judi Boniface" <herkimergenealogy@yahoo.com> To: <NYHERKIM-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, April 18, 2002 6:28 PM Subject: [NYHERKIM] Just a little information > It has been suggested here several times that people check > familysearch for births, marriages, etc. I would encourage people to > use those sources but then go back and look for original records, > there are just too many mistakes at familysearch to take what they > say verbatim, sometimes the information is just totally wrong. > > As to the suggestion that you try to obtain county histories from > Inter-Library loan, you will have better luck getting them from an > FHL library if they are available. True, true. But with two kids ages 9.5 and 2.5 it's tough tough to go. Just about got forcibly ejected from the State Archives -- which is much smaller and lowbrow than the name suggests -- for having a happy but squealing 2.5 yo. They asked me to make her keep it down. Yeah right. It was 15 mins to closing time, I've gone there and helped many others with reading small print with my 34 year old eyes and experience, but hey, the kid has to go. The hours aren't such that I can get there without the kids. So that's why I prefer the 'Net. You can't hear the kids, and it's 24/7 :-) --Amy
