Here's a note for outlanders, like myself, not familiar with a TOWN in New York State. Think of a county subdivided into eight to ten pieces (Plus, or minus.) The subdivisions are called TOWNs, sometimes as Townships, but not often. In the Towns are wide spots in the road, unincorporated communities referred to as Hamlets, or if incorporated - a Village, or a City. These two may only be identified as one or the other, by their government, perhaps a sign at the border as you enter the place telling you which it is. In the Town of Minden there is a hamlet of Minden, but notay voo, in the Town of Palatine there is no hamlet, city, or village called Palatine, just Palatine Bridge accross the Mohawk from Canajoharie. Confused yet? It keep one's attention to the map, doesn't it? randy, seatle, wa. ----- Original Message ----- From: Cvanwagenen@hvc.rr.com Sent: Thursday, September 05, 2002 9:04 AM To: NYSCHOHA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYSCHOHA-L] Re: Places:Stone Arabia & Linden, NY This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
