You didn't mention your mission to Herkimer. If you are of pre-Revolutionary heritage then Montgomery County Archives and Library is an absolute MUST to go to. It is at FONDA. There are other places of value depending upon your family's ancestral hisory, such as of New England, Palatine, Dutch heritage.
