The Alexander I have is supposed to have been born in 1736 and to have died in to the new century, but there are no dates with this supposition. Unles you call "both died very old" to be a date-- LOL. I think I have sent you all I have from the Buchanans in Ohio, the only thing most seem to agree on is that he was born in Dumfirmline, Fifeshire, Scotland . And all that seems to come from a granddaughter who knew the wife very well. I have found some of them in the census spelled Buckannon if that helps, I keep hunting and finding not much. The Herkimer site has a lot about the Wilcox family that might be worth persuing, your ancestor may have stayed connected to them. Have you connected to the Buchanan clearing house?? Eliz

    3. Elizabeth, In November you posted some Buchanan information in regards to a query I posted. The information was on Alexander Buchanan and line of son George Oswell Buchanan. The following data is from the Scotch Church Cemetery in the town of Florida, Montgomery Co., New York. Do you (or anyone) have any information on the other Buchanan's listed? BUCHANAN Alexander, native of Scotland, d. Oct. 4, 1830, 57yr Margaret, his wife, d. Oct. 31, 1854, 77 yr Archibald, native of Perthshire, Scotland, d. 1. [NYHERKIM] Royal Coleman
    2. Trying to find out anything on Royal Coleman, son of John Coleman and Martha Hasey. I have no birthdate, although from family manuscript, I suspect it must have been between 1772 and 1775. Married Dolly Godfrey, had children Thursa, Leafa, Angeline, and Royal, Jr. I believe this family lived in the Stephentown area of Rensselaer County. I have a newpaper copy listing the death of a Royal Coleman in Norway, Herkimer County as Jan 8, 1888 at 77 years. This must be Royal Jr. Thursa married James Nichols, died in Stephentown in July 1867. Angeline married Leonard Knowlton. Thanks, Georgiana Abbott Norris

    1. [NYHERKIM] Abbot Family in New York
    2. Since we are at the beginning of a new year, I thought I would post my information again. It may be redundant to existing list members, but hopefully someone new may recognize something.... Looking for information on my gr-gr grandfather, James M. Abbott. He was born June 14, 1815 at Barre, MA, died September 1893 in New York, in Forestport, Oneida Co., NY. Wife was Melissa, children were James K. (became a doctor- graduated from Albany Medical College), Edmund (lived in Old Forge, NY, postmaster there until at least 1900), John W., Ella M., and George N. All children were born in NY, probably in Oneida County. According to various census reports, this family lived in Herkimer and Oneida Counties at different times. James worked as both a lumberman and a farmer. James K. married Jennie, had a son Charles, and a daughter Grace who married George R. Ainsworth. Edmund married Lucy Traffarn, had children, Harold J., Floyd, and Luella. Luella married G. Harry Brown and lived in Old Forge until her death in 1973. Edmund died in June 1918. George N., married Carrie Klinck, had children Helena, Nina, Charles, James, Ruth Ella, and George N. Helena married William Bleakley, Nina died at age three, Charles died at age 17, Ruth Ella married Hugh Jones, and George N. went to Michigan in the early 1900's, married Doris Taylor. Thanks. Georgiana Abbott Norris

    3. I am also searching the Buchanan line! I have some additional information on Willa, as she is my great-grandmother. She was born 24 Jan 1869 in Illinois. One document says she was born in Rochelle, IL, and another document says she was born in Belvideer, IL. She married Allie HOLMES on 30 Dec 1891 in Town of Whitestown, Oneida County, NY. She died 4 Sept 1900 in West Winfield, NY, and she is buried in West Winfield. I have Willa's father as John Louis BUCHANAN. Now her mother I am not sure. I had Helen POOLER as her mother (cannot remember right now where I got this, I think from the Holmes book my uncle has). But on the Verified Transcript from the Register of Deaths, Willa's mother is listed as Julia D. Buchanan. So I am not sure which is correct. I would love to know if there is someone who connects with John, as I do not have any other information on him. 1. [NYHERKIM] My First Post To The List: NY, MA, MI, CA
    2. Michael Miller
    3. I've just started our Miller family genealogy this year. I've made considerable progress on my own, now I realize I need help, and I am hoping someone can lend a hand. Here's what I know. My g-g-grandfather was James E. Miller, born 1825 in Herkimer Co., NY. He may be the son of James Miller of Winfield, NY who is listed in the 1850 Federal Census, page 136, for that area. By the way, we are Yankee and not of German/Palitine descent. He moved to Jefferson Co., NY sometime before 1860, married Mary D. (maiden name unknown, but born in Jefferson Co., NY) and had a son, Charles W. Miller, in Jefferson Co., NY around 1854. They show up there in the 1860 Federal Census for Adams, Jefferson Co., page 550 where the list shows a daughter. The name is hard to read, but it is something like Keamitt or Kermit, age 16 (I believe she went by "Rose"). They moved again before 1868 to Lee, Berkshire Co., MA when my great grandfather, William Albert Miller, was born in Lee. They also show up in the 1870 Federal Census for Lee, MA. By 1872-84 they start showing up in the city directories of Auburn, NY, the 1875 NY State Census, and the 1880 Federal Census for Auburn. After this the trail grows cold. I know at some point William (maybe the rest of the family too) moved to MI, married Anna Luella Green who was born in Williamston, MI and had my grandfather, Russell William Miller, who was born in Lansing in 1901. They had an older daughter, Evelyn, who was born in 1896 somewhere, and by 1904 Louise Anna Miller was born in Coldwater MI. After 1915 and before 1922 the trail picks up again in Los Angeles, CA (near Highland Park) where William and Anna moved the family and William dies in 1929. My family has so many unanswered questions, like where are James E. and Mary D. Miller buried? I haven't found their graves in Auburn. Whatever happened to them, Charles W. and Rose? Do we have cousins somewhere? What of the MI years? Are there any Green cousins somewhere? Everyone who whould know is gone. Now I realize how important it is to ask these questions of your kin before they die. Family is so important, especially when a part of it moves away. I'm a native Los Angeleno now living in PA. I hope someone can help me fill in some gaps--gaps that are a continent wide. Michael J. Miller
