Hello, Below are 4 generations (direct - only my line) of descendants of Malcolm CAMPBELL, b. 1781 in Argyll, Scotland and d. 1852 in Herkimer County, NY. The third generation CAMPBELL, James Howard CAMPBELL (b. 1857), left Herkimer County, NY and moved to Fall River, MA. One good place is to check the church records of Herkimer. Many of them are on microfilm at the LDS Family History Libraries. That is where I got a good deal of information on my ancestor of Herkimer. One record is called " Record of the Reformed Protestant Chruch of Herkimer " by Royden W. Vosburgh. It contains birth, marriage, death and member information. Many of the people of Herkimer were German Lutheran. I only copied a portion of this record pertaining to my ancestor and I didn't see the Orendorf surname, but it could be in the other pages, I believe that there was an index, it has been awhile since I got that info. If I run across anything on your ancestor I will send it your way. Hope this helps. Hello Listers, I am looking for information on my g-grandfather, Peter Orenduff (Orendorf). He was born in Fort Herkimer, June 8, 1844. He married Mary Nutt in 1865. they lived in Amsterdam where he was a broom maker, and raised several children. I can find no record of Peter prior to his marriage. His parents names were George and Mary (per his death certficate). I have been unable to locate this family in census records. I did find a George and Mary buried in Fort Herkimer but an obituary check showed that they were not Peter's parents. Does any one have any information on this family? I appreciate any help I can get. Ann James
Thanks to all who sent the information I needed, and so quickly! Marlene
The last I knew Surrogates Court in Herkimer charged way too much to do any research or make copies, some ridiculous amount like $75/hr. Herkimer has a brand new county office building and the courts are housed in the new building. The old court house is across the street from the County Clerks office, the new county office building is just around the corner. I would imagine that you need to get in touch with the Herkimer County Court House , and find out what they will charge you to send you those copies. Good luck, Gail Boyer Swetman.
I have received information that several of my Dedrick ancestors sold off their property in Herkimer Co (Frankfort) between 1800 & 1860. The person who sent me the information, sent me Book & Page # from a "deed index book". Does anyone know whom I might contact to obtain copies of these transactions. Thank you, Marlene

I would like to welcome those of you new to this site and tell you there are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are more that 6200 prisoners on record from the state of New York and more than 2300 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of some 13000 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. .I also wish to thank the patience of those regular subscribers for my frequent postings.
