    2. Just wanted to let you know that my Dad's aunt named Hazel Boyer Schuyler had a son she named Richard Fancher Schuyler. She must have known someone by that name to have it be Fancher as that is an unusual name. My Dad said his cousin was called "Fancher." The Boyer Family were from Herkimer County, and Hazel lived around the Stratford, Ingham Mills area. Hope this may help you. Gail Boyer Swetman

    3. My Knight family line is a brick wall. The earliest Knight member I can find is Byron Knight (my g-grandfather) married to Emma Viola Powers (1845-1926). This was Emma's 2nd marriage and I don't know the date or place but their only son was William Bernard (1879-1926). William m. Frances L. Mooney of Utica, Oneida Co., NY and they moved to Mohawk, Herkimer Co., NY. Their son John (1912-1981, my dad) m. Lois Anna Nabinger. Emma's 1st marraige was to someone named Curtis but I can't find any data there either. In fact the only references I have to Byron are 1) his name on William's death certificate; 2) Emma claims to be the wife of Byron and the mother of William in court papers filed at the probate of her grandmother's will (William got a beneficence); & 3) the 1896 city directory of the city of Utica, Oneida Co., NY lists Emma as "widow of Byron". Prior to 1896 the city directories listed Emma as head-of-household. Apparently they didn't live together for very long. There was a Job Knight who was a veteran of the War of 1812 and lived in Newport, Herkimer Co., NY which is where Emma Powers' father lived at the 1850 census. It would make sense that Emma may well have married a hometown boy but I can't seem to find a connection. There are also populations of Knight families in southern Herkimer and Oneida counties. Daniel Knight came from New England and was one of the founders of Rome, Oneida Co., NY. If you can loosen even one brick in this wall for me, I'd be grateful. 3. I recently found that the lineage I had for my ancestress Cordelia Goodrich belongs to another Cordelia, some eight years her junior I'd like to hear from anyone working in Herkimer County with GOODRICH ancestors or with any connection to James Lawrence SMITH because while there are at least six Cordelia Goodriches in the LDS files, none of them are the one I seek; and several websearches have failed to unearth her, other than the information I have from Fremont County IA, where she is listed in her husband's biography I have posted also on the Oneida County list, since she is said to have been born in Whitestown in 1823, but her family might have been in Herkimer County also any information, including negative information, most welcome Candy

Surogate Court are very accomodating. I was there last fall and , yes, they only charged me 25 cents a page for copying costs. The Herkimer Library charges 10 cents a page. But Beware! The Herkimer Village Clerk's office charges the state approved rates for records, starting at $11.00 for birth or death certificates even if you know the exact date. More if they have to search a period greater than three years. Steve Knight ----- Original Message ----- From: "Helen P. 2. Attn: Helen Burwell Supposedly, according to a web site I was on, but can't remember which one, both Samuel Zurlinden and Fanny Zurlinden had recorded wills. The site I saw had an order form to get them for $8 each. If I can get them for less than that, I'm interested! The information you got me before is fantastic, and still all I have, other than death and cemetery info that I got in 1996. Regards, Bob Mollenauer Ridgecrest, Kern Co., CA

    2. Got that. Helen got me so much information last year or the year before, I was just wondering if there was anything else out there. Other than what I found at City Hall and the cemetery myself, Helen Burwell hit a gold mine for me! I guess I need to check with the library myself. She might have, I don't remember. What a great lady she was to get me all the info she got! If you're reading this, Helen, thanks again! Bob Mollenauer Ridgecrest, CA

    3. >From The Portrait and Biographical Album of Rock County, Wis., publ, 1889 - page 538 JAMES H. BYERS, a leading farmer residing on section 8, Janesville Township, and one of the early settlers of the county, was born in Herkimer County, N.Y., in 1824, and was the third in a family of six children, whose parents were James and Nancy (DOCKSTADER) BYERS, also natives of Herkimer County. The father engaged in general merchandising in the town of Herkimer for several years and his death occurred in 1849, from drowning. His excellent wife survived him but one year, her death also occurring in New York. Our subject received his education in the schools of Herkimer and German Flats, N.Y., and afterwards engaged in boating. He also learned the trade of building fanning mills and resided in his native State until 1856. In the village of Mohawk, N.Y., in the year 1845, he led to the marriage altar Miss Louisa PRICE, a native of Montgomery County, that State, in which county her parents, John and Mary (DILLENBECK) PRICE, were also born. Her father engaged in the manufacture of fanning mills, which he afterwards sold, and in 1856, emigrated to the West, locating in Rock County, Wis. He purchased an improved farm in Janesville Township, and engaged in its cultivation until his death, which occurred in 1876, at the age of seventy-six years. His wife had previously been called to her final rest, dying in 1869, when sixty-five years of age. They were the parents of four children - John H., who resided in Rock County until his death in 1861, when thirty-four years of age; Mary E! mily, who wedded a Mr. VAN VRANKLIN, and died in March, 1865, at the age of thirty-two years; Charles, who is married, and is engaged in farming in Center Township; and Louisa. After his marriage, Mr. BYERS remained a resident of his native State until 1856, when desiring to make his home in the West, he emigrated to Rock County, Wis., locating on section 8, Janesville Township. He there purchased 120 acres of land, which had just been broken, erected a house thereon and commenced the improvement of his farm. At different times he has bought and sold various amounts of land but now owns 100 acres comprising one of the best farms in the township; it being highly improved and cultivated. He carries on general farming, raising a good grade of all kinds of stock, and pays some attention to the cultivation of tobacco. The cause of education finds in Mr. BYERS an earnest friend, and for several years he served as a member of the School Board. He takes a deep interest in political affairs, casting his ballot with the Democratic party, and is numbered among the progressive and substantial farmers of Janesville Township. Three children have been born of the union of Mr. and Mrs. BYERS - Bloomfield H., who is engaged in the manufacture of cigars, is married and resides in Janesville; Mary E. is the wife of Stephen A. GARDNER, of Harmony; and Clara L., who wedded James K. GARDNER, is living with her father. The family of which Mr. BYERS is a member, consisted of Mary Ann, now Mrs. EDDY, of Herkimer County, N.Y.; Jane, now deceased, was the wife of Peter PRYNE; James H., of this sketch; Frederick, who is married, is a manufacturer of New York; Margaret, who was Mrs. WHEELER, is now deceased; and Robert is married and resides in New York City. ______________________________
